Men's Swimming & Diving Races Past Wesleyan, 205-82

MIDDLETOWN, Conn.—Juniors Anthony Taslakov (Sherborn, Mass.) and David Krol (Grafton, Wis.) and first-years Evan Hong (Longmeadow, Mass.) and Matthias McFarlane (Trumbull, Conn.) each finished first in a pair of events to help the Babson College men's swimming & diving team defeat Wesleyan University, 205-82, in a dual meet on Saturday inside the Webster Family Natatorium. 

With the victory, the Beavers improve to 6-1 on the season while Wesleyan is now 0-5. 

Taslakov recorded Babson's first individual win of the meet with a time of 1:47.67 in the 200 free and later took first place by nearly four seconds with a time of 1:59.38 in the 200 backstroke. Hong won both the 50 free (21.72) and 100 free (48.43), McFarlane touched the wall first in the 50 breaststroke (26.58) and 200 breaststroke in a time of 2:13.50, and Krol scored 278.55 points on the 1-meter board posted a total of 273.90 on the 3-meter board to sweep the diving events. 

Sophomore Thomas Ambelang (Bernardsville, N.J.) came in first in the 50 backstroke with a time of 24.49, classmate Nehemiah Rhee (Paramus, N.J.) won the 200 butterfly in a time of 1:59.42 and fellow sophomore William Iglar (Marietta, Ga.) captured the 200 IM with a time of 2:00.89. Classmate Dom Crisafulli (Natick, Mass.) also contributed a first-place showing with his time of 5:15.11 in the 500 free. 

Ambelang, sophomore Nathan Huynh (Naperville, Ga.), Rhee and Hong came in first by more than nine seconds with a time of 3:32.90 in the 400 medley relay, while the quartet of sophomore Tommy Hannenian (Sacramento, Calif.), Ambelang, McFarlane and Hong recorded a time of 1:27.71 to win the 200 free relay. 

Hannenian was the runner-up in the 200 free with a time of 1:52.32, Crisafulli came in second in the 50 back clocking in at 25.69 and sophomore Ryan Furudera (Tokyo, Japan) contributed a second-place showing with his time of 51.05 in the 100 free. Rhee was the runner-up with a time of 24.22 in the 50 butterfly, first-year Josh Adler (Merrimac, Mass.) took second with a time of 5:16.87 in the 500 free and sophomore Phillip Spiridonov (Ridgewood, N.J.) added a second-place result with a time of 2:03.23 in the 200 backstroke. 

First-year Hadi AlDayaa (Chelmsford, Mass.) also finished second on both the 1-meter (187.05) and 3-meter (195.15) diving events. 

Sophomore Chengetai Zamchiya (Cheverly, Md.) in the 50 breaststroke and first-year Wyatt Amos (Gloucester, Mass.) in the 50 free joined Adler (1000 free), Iglar (200 butterfly) and Ambelang (200 back) in recording third-place finishes for the Beavers. 

Babson will head to Florida for its winter training trip on Sunday before returning to competition on Saturday, January 24, when it hosts Bridgewater State at 11 a.m. inside Morse Pool.
