Women's Soccer Set for Road Test at Union on Saturday

SERIES HISTORY

•    Babson is 0-2 all-time against Union in a series that dates back to 2019.
•    The Garnet Chargers were 1-0 winners in Babson Park in 2019 and edged the Beavers in double-overtime in Schenectady back in 2021. 

LAST MEETING
•    Emma Schleimer scored the decisive goal with 36 seconds to go in the second overtime as Union defeated Babson, 2-1, on September 4, 2021, in Schenectady, N.Y.
•    Fiona Zimmerman opened the scoring in the fourth minute and Abby Mitty made four saves for the Garnet Chargers, who were outshot 18-8 and scored on their only attempt on target in extra time in the 110th minute. 
•    Elisa Diletizia '25 tied the game in the 77th minute and Nora Ryan '25 made all four of her saves in the second half and overtime for the Beavers. 

SCOUTING THE BEAVERS
•    Babson (0-0-1) opened the season with a 0-0 draw against Brandeis on Tuesday afternoon. 
•    Senior Cleo Grignard and junior Callahan Cottone both played 45 minutes and finished with two saves apiece for the Beavers, who held a slim 5-4 edge in shots on goal. 
•    The Green and White returns 18 players from a team that went 8-7-5 and advanced to the NEWMAC Tournament semifinals last season, including all-conference junior backs Jadyn Mapura and Caroline Sutherland and all-conference junior midfielder Priscilla-Rose Men-Martin
•    Sophomore Josie Lee finished second on the team in scoring with three goals and two assists for eight points, while senior Meredith Greeley contributed two goals and one assist for five points. 

SCOUTING THE GARNET CHARGERS
•    Union (1-1) picked up its first victory of the season by defeating Smith, 1-0, on Tuesday afternoon. 
•    Vanessa Jorgensen scored her first goal of the season in the 21st minute and Rachel Berliner made all three of her saves in the first half for the Garnet Chargers, who outshot the Bears 18-4. 
•    Union, which finished 9-5-5 in 2024, brings back 20 players highlighted by the return of three of its top four scorers in Taylor Bovardi (4-3-11), Anabelle Thomas (3-1-7) and Jorgensen (2-3-7), who tied for the team lead in assists. 
•    Berliner went 3-1-1 with a 0.19 goals against average and a .955 save percentage, while Maya Koster was 6-4-4 with a 0.67 goals against average and a .873 save percentage as the Garnet Chargers posted 11 clean sheets and ranked 23rd in Division III in scoring defense. 

GIVE ME LIBERTY
•    Saturday's match marks the fifth time the Beavers have faced a Liberty League opponent going back to 2021. 
•    Babson defeated St. Lawrence 1-0 and suffered a 1-0 loss to RIT in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament back in 2023, and was a 3-0 winner over Clarkson in addition to its 2-1 2OT loss to Union in 2021. 

STARTING POINT
•    Along with first-years Emily Bacon, Lindsey Cassady and Autumn Simon, Greeley and sophomore Rylie Wesley were both part of the starting XI for the first time in their respective careers in Tuesday's draw with Brandeis. 
•    First-years Sarah Hogan, Izzy Lee, Avery Prewo and Izzy Reidy all saw the first game action of their careers in the first half against the Judges. 
•    Men-Martin and junior Claudia Baiter were the only Babson starters to play all 90 minutes in the season opener. 

POLL POSITION
•    After advancing to the NEWMAC Tournament semifinals last year for the third straight season, Babson was picked to finish second when the NEWMAC released its preseason coaches' poll last week. 
•    The Green and White outscored their opponents 15-13 in conference play last fall before being eliminated for the NEWMAC Tournament by eventual champion MIT in the semifinals, 1-0.
•    Over the last three seasons, the Beavers are 20-6-6 in regular season matches against conference foes.

NUMBERS TO KNOW
•    The Beavers are 8-2-6 going back to the start of last season when they go into halftime with the lead or tied.
•    Babson is 6-2-6 when conceding one goal or fewer going back to the start of last year. 
•    The Green and White was 7-0-2 when scoring the first goal and 4-1-0 when putting up at least two goals in 2024.
•    The Beavers are 6-4-6 in the month of September since the start of the 2023 campaign.
