Men's Tennis Continues Strong Start at the MIT Invitational

| Box Score 3 CAMBRIDGE, Mass.—Junior Louis Bourn (Geneva, Switzerland), sophomore Sebastian Mendoza (Weston, Fla.) and first-year Maxim Zlobinsky (Greenvale, N.Y.) all went unbeaten in both singles and doubles to highlight a strong showing over the weekend at the MIT Invitational. 

The Beavers went 20-7 in singles play against Bowdoin, MIT and UC-Santa Cruz, and finished 14-2 in doubles competing against Amherst, Bowdoin, MIT and Wesleyan. 

FRIDAY
Babson got the tournament underway by winning six of seven singles matches versus UC-Santa Cruz. Bourn, senior Martin Mejia (Cali, Colombia), sophomore Mason Nguyen (El Dorado Hills, Calif.) and first-years Felipe Ramirez (Spring, Texas) and Sourish Gadhi (Morganville, N.J.) were all straight-set winners, while fellow rookie Dylan O'Connell-DeCerchio (Santa Monica, Calif.) recorded a three-set victory against the Banana Slugs. 

The Beavers went 3-1 in their first doubles set of the weekend against Bowdoin the pairings of Mendoza and sophomore Edward Wang (Burr Ridge, Ill.), senior Alexander Merson (Palisades Park, N.J.) and first-year Rishi Batlanki (Monroe Township, N.J.), and Bourn and Zlobinsky all recording wins. All three pairings were victorious again against Amherst, while Mejia and graduate student Ryan Patrick (Darien, Conn.) completed the sweep with of the Mammoths with an 8-4 triumph. 

SATURDAY
The Green and White played two sets of singles matches and had one doubles contest on day two. Babson went 5-3 in singles versus MIT and won five of six against UC-Santa Cruz in addition to winning three of four doubles matches against Wesleyan. 

Merson, Mendoza, Gadhi and O'Connell-DeCerchio were victorious in straight sets, and Zlobinsky edged the Engineers' Grant Gallagher 6-2, 4-6, 10-7. Both Wang and Batlanki suffered three-set losses against MIT. 

Bourn, Ramirez, O'Connell and Mejia were straight-set winners against UC-Santa Cruz, while Nguyen lost a first-set tiebreaker before rallying for a  6-7, 6-0, 10-5 victory over Gavin Sontag. The pairings of Wang and Mendoza and Zlobinsky and Bourn stayed unbeaten in doubles, and the duo of Mejia and Patrick picked up their second victory of the event with a 6-3 triumph over the Cardinals' Tai MacDonald and Nicky Hermes. 

SUNDAY
Babson concluded the weekend with a strong showing that included going 6-2 in singles against Bowdoin and sweeping all four doubles matches versus MIT. Five of the Beavers' six singles victories came in straight sets and Mendoza rallied for a 3-6, 6-3, 10-5 triumph over Kiran Garapati of the Polar Bears. 

Gadhi and Nguyen made their weekend debut in doubles winning 8-5 over Siddharth Marathe and Cole Armstrong, Zlobinsky and Bourn finished off an undefeated tournament with an 8-3 victory, and Merson and Batlanki were 8-5 winners. The final match came down to a tiebreaker as Wang and Mendoza outlasted Adam Sun and Grant Gallagher 8-7 (7-5). 

Babson returns to action on Friday when it begins ITA New England Championship play at both MIT and Tufts at 9 a.m.
