Women's Golf Begins 2025-26 Campaign at Wellesley's Ann Batchelder Match Play on Saturday and Sunday

WHAT TO KNOW

•    The Babson women's golf team will open its 2025-26 campaign with a two-day match play event against the top programs in New England at Wellesley's Nehoiden Golf Club, which opened in 1893 and is one of the oldest college courses in the United States.
•    The Beavers will play an 18-hole match each day on Nehoiden's 5,250-yard par 72 layout. 

LAST TIME AT THE ANN BATCHELDER MATCH PLAY
•    Babson will compete in Wellesley's match play tournament for the second time in three seasons after dropping nine-hole matches to the host Blue (4-1) and Bowdoin (3-2) on April 13, 2024. 
•    Junior Laura Lu picked up the Beavers' lone point against Wellesley with a 2 and 1 victory over Marilyn Fang. 
•    Junior Victoria Salim was a 2 and 1 winner over Emilia Rose and Sarah Ji '25 beat Hailey Ryan 3 and 2 in the team's loss to the Polar Bears. 

ABOUT THE BEAVERS
•    Now in its third season as a varsity program, Babson returns nine players from a team that finished the 2024-25 campaign eighth in the East region and No. 26 nationally in the Scoreboard Division III rankings. 
•    Sophomore Alice Zhu, who led the team with a 75.93 stroke average, recorded five top-15 finishes including two victories and one runner-up showing in five starts, while Lu was second on the team with a 77.18 average. 
•    Sophomores Hannah McCarthy (78.75) and Camila Amaya (79.20) both finished under par once, classmate Jennie Pan finished her rookie campaign with a 79.20 scoring average in 10 rounds, and Salim ended the year with an 83.43 average over seven rounds. 
•    The Beavers concluded the season with a 313.0 team scoring average, which was a 16-stroke improvement from their inaugural campaign in 2023-24. 

MAKING HISTORY
•    The Beavers produced a number of historic program firsts last season, which included earning its first national ranking in late October while rising as high as No. 13 in the WGCA Division III poll.
•    Babson also peaked at No. 11 in the Scoreboard Division III rankings in December 2024 and won both the NEIGA Championship in October and the Camp Lejeune Intercollegiate in April. 
•    Individually, Amaya and McCarthy posted the first under par rounds in program history (1-under 72) in the final round of the Polar Bear Shootout on September 15, while Lu and Zhu bettered the mark by shooting 1-under 70 in the second round of the Camp Lejeune Intercollegiate on April 5. 

BEAVERS' NEW CONFERENCE HOME
•    Following the formation of the league last March, the Colonial Women's Golf Conference (CWGC) is set to hold its inaugural championship this fall
•    Although the CWGC must go through a two-year waiting period before earning automatic qualifier status for the NCAA Tournament, founding members Babson, Carlow University (Pa.), Christopher Newport (Va.), Kean (N.J.), Penn State Altoona, Salisbury (Md.), and Stockton (N.J.) will vie to become the first league champion at Wyncote Golf Club in Oxford, Pa., on October 27-28. 

ANN BATCHEDLER MATCH PLAY FIELD
•    Babson will face a pair of strong opponents on the opening weekend of the season as all five of its potential foes finished last season among the top 25 in the Scoreboard Division III rankings and begin this season ranked in the WGCA poll. 
•    No. 7 Williams and No. 14 Middlebury are coming off of top-10 finishes at last May's NCAA Championship, No. 7 Wellesley and No. 9 Amherst placed 11th and 12th, respectively, while 25th-ranked Bowdoin concluded last season by coming in second at the NESCAC Championship. 

UP NEXT
•    The Beavers return to action on September 27-28 when they travel to Williamstown, Mass., for the Williams Invitational at Taconic Golf Club.
