Evan Eichenlaub (Bethlehem, Pa.) shot a 2-over 74 to post one of the best scores of the day in the second round of the NCAA Division III Championship at Midvale Country Club on Wednesday.
Eichenlaub, who opened with an 82 at Cobblestone Creek Country Club on Tuesday, posted a 36-hole score of 12-over 156 to finish in a tie for 107th position in the 225-player field. Eighteen of 43 teams and the top six individuals from teams that missed the cut advanced to the final two rounds on Thursday and Friday with the cut coming at 4-over 148.
Forced to use a shotgun start because of rain in the Rochester area, started on the eighth hole at Midvale CC and followed a bogey on the par-3 ninth with a birdie on the par-5 10th hole. He was even through his first eight holes of the day before making bogeys on Nos. 16 and 18.
Eichenlaub made another bogey at the par-3 fourth but bounced right back with a birdie on No. 5 before concluding his round with consecutive pars.
The first individual in program history to qualify for the NCAA Championship, Eichenlaub was just 2-over par over his final 25 holes after getting off to slow start in Tuesday's opening round.
