Aman Vantipalli (Alpharetta, Ga.) and senior
Colin Fowler (Portland, Ore.) both shot 72 in their afternoon round to help the 20th-ranked Babson College men's golf team move up 10 spots on the leaderboard into a tie for fifth place after 36 holes at the Sam Snead Collegiate on Monday.
The Beavers shot 305-292 and ended the day with a 36-hole total of 29-over 597 to pull into a tie with 12th-ranked Piedmont. No. 2 Carnegie Mellon (7-over) holds a one-stroke lead over No. 3 Methodist, which posted the low round of the day (283) in the afternoon, while No. 13 Kenyon (14-over) and No. 17 Lynchburg (22-over) are currently sit in third and fourth place, respectively.
Vantipalli put together a pair of steady rounds with two birdies and four bogeys on the way to shooting a 2-over 73 in the morning before carding a pair of birdies as part of his second round 72 to end the day in a tie for 10th place with a 36-hole score of 3-over 145. Sophomore
Chad Tordone (Barnstable, Mass.) birdied two of his final five holes to open with a 75 before playing the final 14 holes of the second round in 1-under en route to carding a 2-over 73 that helped him grab a share of 21st position at 6-over.
Senior
Shane Quinn (Morristown, N.J.) was three shots better in an afternoon round that included two birdies and shot 78-75 to finish the day in a tie for 55th place at 11-over. Fowler bounced back from a first round 84 by playing his final 15 holes in 1-under, which included making 13 consecutive pars on the way to a 1-over 72 to move into a tie for 69th at 14-over.
Junior
Jack Berry (Western Springs, Ill.) made a pair of birdies in each round and shot 79-79, which has time tied for 82nd at 16-over through 36 holes.
Babson begins final round play at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday at Golden Horseshoe Golf Club.
TOURNAMENT NOTES
• The Beavers' second round score of 292 is their lowest in four rounds on the Gold Course at Golden Horseshoe GC, which they had not played since April 2019 prior to Monday.
• Vantipalli is tied for third in the 108-player field with 25 pars and is currently tied for fourth in par 4 scoring at 1-over through 36 holes.
• Tordone, who has shot 75 or better in four consecutive rounds, tied for sixth in par 5 scoring on Monday at 3-under.
• The 21-team Sam Snead Collegiate field features 14 squads that are currently ranked among the top 50 in the Scoreboard Division III rankings.
