HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla.—Sophomore
Aman Vantipalli (Alpharetta, Ga.) carded a 7-over 79 on the El Campeon Course in the third round of the NCAA Division III Championship at Mission Inn Resort and Club on Thursday afternoon.
One of the top six individuals from a team-that did not make Wednesday's 36-hole cut, Vantipalli is tied for 62nd place overall with a 54-hole total of 9-over 224. Adrian Jordan of Kenyon, Alan Van Asch of Lynchburg and Tim Kaufman of Washington & Lee are tied for the lead at 7-under, while seven other players will begin the final round within four shots of the leaders.
Vantipalli opened his round with consecutive bogeys on Nos. 10 and 11 and made another on the short par 3 15th before making his lone birdie of the afternoon on the par 4 18th hole to get back to 2-over for the day. Unfortunately he was unable to gain any more strokes on the field after carding just his second double-bogey of the tournament on the par 3 second hole in addition to carding three late bogeys.
Vantipalli will begin final round play on the El Campeon Course at 9:40 a.m. on Friday.
