No. 20 Men's Golf Finishes Fall Schedule with 10th-Place Showing at The Tartan Invitational

LIGONIER, Pa.—First-year Jay Sherwood (Duxbury, Mass.) shot a 2-over 74, senior Jack Berry (Western Springs, Ill.) carded a 3-over 75 and the 20th-ranked Babson College men's golf team finished in 10th place in The Tartan Invitational on Tuesday afternoon at Laurel Valley Golf Club.

The Beavers posted a final round score of 306 to conclude the tournament at 41-over 905 on the 7,258-yard par-72 layout at Laurel Valley. No. 3 Emory finished at 11-over 875 to beat No. 6 Carnegie Mellon (879) by four strokes, while No. 2 Kenyon (887), Carnegie Mellon B (887) and No. 8 Methodist (890) rounded out the top five. The 18-team field featured 14 teams currently ranked in the Bushnell Golfweek Division III Top 25.

Sherwood started his round with consecutive birdies on Nos. 11 and 12 and eagled the 534-yard par-5 third hole to get back to 2-under for the day. He bounced back from a double bogey at No. 4 with another birdie on the short par-4 seventh hole on the way to shooting a 2-over 74 that helped him tie for 14th place in the tournament at 6-over 222.

Berry birdied two of his first three holes in Tuesday's final round and finished in a tie for 16th place at 7-over 223. Junior Aman Vantipalli (Alpharetta, Ga.) also got off to a hot start with an eagle on the 571-yard par-5 11th hole followed by a birdie on No. 12 but made a pair of double bogeys on his outward nine and three late bogeys to shoot a 6-over 78 that dropped him into a tie for 40th position with a 54-hole total of 12-over 228.

Sophomore Mason Malouf (Boston, Mass.) was 4-over through his first three holes but made a birdie on No. 6 and another on his final hole, the long par-5 11th, to post his second consecutive round of 79, which left him in a tie for 83rd at 29-over for the tournament.

Babson will return to action at the Tiger Invitational in Pinehurst, N.C., in March.
