JEKYLL ISLAND, Ga.—Senior
Colin Fowler (Portland, Ore.) carded a 3-under 69 and junior
Jack Berry (Western Springs, Ill.) shot a 1-under 71 as the Babson College men's golf team finished under par for the second day in a row and sits in eighth place after two rounds of the Jekyll Island Collegiate Invitational on Saturday.
The Beavers shot 3-under 285 on in round two and have posted a 36-hole score of 9-under 567. No. 1 Huntingdon is in first place at 28-under 548, which is six strokes ahead of No. 6 Sewanee (554). No. 4 Washington & Lee (556) begins the final round eight shots back, while No. 3 Carnegie Mellon (560) and No. 5 Methodist (560) are tied for fourth place.
Fowler finished in red numbers for the second day in a row and is currently tied for 14th place at 5-under for the tournament. He opened the day with an eagle on the par 5 first hole and closed with birdies on 12, 15 and 18 to post his low round of the season.
Sophomore
Aman Vantipalli (Alpharetta, Ga.) is also tied for 14th place at 5-under after following up Friday's first round 66 with a 1-over 73 in round two. He made three birdies over the first five holes on Saturday to get to 9-under for the tournament, and carded birdies on Nos. 13 and 15 to offset four bogeys before making a double on the par 4 16th.
Senior
Shane Quinn (Morristown, N.J.) continued his steady play by carding an even-par 72 for the second day in a row. After making the turn at even, he bogeyed Nos. 10 and 11 before bouncing back with a birdie on the par 5 15th hole and finishing the day with an eagle on the par 5 18th to grab a share of 49th place.
Berry finished the day with five birdies and four bogeys on the way to shooting a 1-under 71 to move into a tie for 58th position at 1-over through 36 holes, while sophomore
Chad Tordone (Barnstable, Mass.) made two of his three birdies on the day over the final three holes on the way to shooting a 74 to finish the day at 9-over through 36 holes.
Babson also has six players taking part in the Indian Mound Invitational at Jekyll Island Golf Club where sophomore
Howie Poon (Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia) is second at 2-over through 36 holes after shooting an even-par 72 on Saturday. Graduate student
Trevor Connolly (South Weymouth, Mass.) is tied for eighth at 7-over after carding a 3-over 75 in the second round, while first-year
Luke Walker (Bradenton, Fla.) is tied for 14th place at 10-over following his second round 78.
Babson will begin final round play on Sunday at 8 a.m.
TOURNAMENT NOTES
• Berry has finished under par a team-high five times in 16 rounds this spring, while Fowler's 69 is his lowest round of the season.
• Fowler leads the 150-player field in par 5 scoring at 9-under, while Vantipalli is tied for second in the field with 13 birdies through two rounds.
• As a team, the Beavers are tied for fifth in par 5 scoring at 20-under and tied for seventh in par 4 scoring at 11-over.
• The average score in Saturday's second round was 73.05, which was three-quarters of a stroke better than round one on Friday.
