LAST MEETING
vs. Emory
• No. 15 Babson captured victories in two out of three doubles matches but saw No. 3 Emory bounce back with wins in five out of six singles matches to take a 6-3 triumph over the Beavers on April 5, 2024 at the WoodPEC in Atlanta.
• Junior Matia Cristiani secured victories in both singles and doubles for the Beavers, winning in straight sets at second singles after teaming up with senior Olivia Soffer for a verdict at number one doubles. Juliette Moschella '24 and sophomore Dana Kamal produced a win at number three doubles for the Green and White.
• Ilayda Baykan '24, juniors Emily Kantrovitz, Izzy Antanavicius, and Iris Berman, and senior Eliza McPherron posted singles wins for Emory. Berman and McPherron were also winners at third doubles.

SCOUTING THE BEAVERS
• No. 15 Babson (7-2, 2-1 NEWMAC) produced back-to-back 7-0 shutouts over Emerson on Friday and No. 29 Colby on Saturday in a pair of home matches.
• The top four players of Olivia Soffer, Matia Cristiani, sophomore Chaniel Soffer and first-year Alessandra Cristiani were all winners in both singles and doubles against Colby. Junior Kamila Stasiowska and first-year Mia Sorrentino also posted singles wins for the Beavers.
• Olivia (18-4) leads the team in singles wins, including 8-1 at No. 1, and Matia (15-1) is second on the team, including 7-0 at No. 2. Chaniel (13-4) is 6-1 at No. 3 and Alessandra (12-4) is 5-1 at No. 4 for the Beavers, who have won 41 of 54 matches in singles and 19 of 27 in doubles this spring.
• Olivia and Matia are 12-2 this year in doubles, including 5-1 at No. 1 in dual matches, and Chaniel and Alessandra are 4-4 at No. 2 doubles.

SCOUTING THE EAGLES
• No. 3 Emory (11-3, 2-1 UAA), which has played its last 10 and 12 of its 14 dual matches against top-25 opponents, including six vs. top-5 foes, is coming off a 4-3 victory over No. 17 Washington U. of St. Louis in a conference match back on March 30.
• Kantrovitz at No. 1, Berman at No. 3, and McPherron at No. 5 were singles winners for the Eagles, who earned the doubles point with victories by Kantrovitz and graduate student Dakota Fordham at No. 2, and McPherron and sophomore Yanire Marte at No. 3.
• Kantrovitz (21-3) is 11-1 at No. 1 singles this season, Berman (15-5) is 9-3 at No. 3, Marte (14-6) is 9-4 at No. 4, and McPherron (12-7) is 7-5 at No. 5. Antanavicius (13-11) also has double-digit victories in singles.
• Antanavicius/Berman (17-3) are 8-0 at No. 2 doubles, Marte/McPherron (15-5) are 10-1 at No. 3, and Kantrovitz/Fordham (11-11) are 4-6 in dual matches in the top two flights.

SCOUTING THE SPARTANS
• No. 17 Case Western Reserve (10-3, 0-1 UAA), which will take on Berry College on Friday before meeting Babson on Saturday, defeating Otterbein 7-0 last Sunday in Mayfield, Ohio.
• The Spartans swept all six singles matches in straight sets by senior Anna Kan at No. 1, juniors Asha Shukla and Elsa Syed at Nos. 2 and 3, sophomore Katie Wong at No. 4, junior Ellior Rose at No. 5, and sophomore Prachi Shah at No. 6. CWRU dropped just one game in sweeping the doubles.
• Senior Lily McCloskey (14-5) is 8-3 at No. 1 singles, junior Katalina Wang (12-6) and graduate student Laurel Utterback (10-4) are both 4-2 at No. 2, and Kan (11-7) is 6-5 in the two middle flights. Shukla (13-5) is 9-3 in dual matches and Wong (9-4) is 6-2 in duals.
• The tandem of McCloskey and Wang (15-3) are 10-2 at No. 1 doubles, Kan and Syed are 6-2 at No. 2, and Syed and Utterback are 4-0 at Nos. 2 and 3.

SOFFER NAMED NEWMAC SINGLES PLAYER OF THE WEEK
• Olivia Soffer was named NEWMAC Singles Player of the Week on Monday after posting a pair of straight-set wins at No. 1 singles in back-to-back 7-0 victories.
• Soffer has won her last eight singles matches, including seven in straight sets. She has improved her career record to 90-14, which is the most singles wins in program history.

NATIONALLY RANKED FOES
• This weekend's matches will be the seventh and eighth Babson matches this spring against teams ranked in the top-40 in the ITA Division III poll.
• The Beavers are 4-2 in the first six encounters, and will also take on No. 16 MIT and No. 10 Amherst in the next two weeks.
• Babson is 13-10 against ranked teams going back to 2023.

NEWMAC REVIVAL
• The NEWMAC is one of four Division III conferences with three teams ranked in the top 20 of the latest ITA poll along with the NESCAC, UAA and Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC). 
• No. 15 Babson is joined by 12th-ranked Wellesley and 16th-ranked MIT, while the NESCAC (6), UAA (5), and SCIAC (3) make up 14 of the other 17 squads in the top 20. 

NUMBERS TO KNOW
• Babson is 7-1 this spring and 20-3 since the start of last season when leading after doubles.
• The Beavers have gone 8-1 at number one, two and three singles the spring, and 7-2 at four.
• The Green and White are 36-10 in dual matches going back to the start of the 2022-23 season.

UP NEXT
• The Beavers will play their next five matches against conference opponents, beginning Tuesday against Clark at 3:30 p.m. at the Babson Tennis Courts.
