Babson Joins Newly Approved Colonial Women's Golf Conference

BABSON PARK, Mass.—Babson College received word of acceptance into the Colonial Women's Golf Conference (CWGC), as the single-sport league has been officially approved for active NCAA Division III status beginning on September 1. The CWGC will provide a new platform for competitive women's collegiate golf, bringing together a strong lineup of institutions committed to the growth of the sport.

The founding members of the CWGC include Babson, Carlow University (Pa.), Christopher Newport University (Va.), Kean University (N.J.), Penn State Altoona (Pa.), Salisbury University (Md.), and Stockton University (N.J.).

"We are thrilled to be one of the founding members of the Colonial Women's Golf Conference," said Babson head coach Jeff Page. "With next September being the start of our program's third season, it's comforting to know we have a conference home for many years. We look forward to competing against our fellow CWGC members and representing the conference with class and dignity."

The inaugural CWGC Championship will take place this October 26-28 at Wyncote Golf Club in Oxford, Pennsylvania, a highly regarded venue for golf enthusiasts and competitors alike. This championship will mark the beginning of a new chapter in Division III women's golf.

As a newly formed single-sport league, the CWGC will not yet be eligible for automatic qualification into the NCAA Tournament. Under current NCAA regulations, the conference must meet a two-year waiting period before earning automatic qualifier (AQ) status. The league is in the process of securing the required waiver from the Division III Championships Committee.

"Knowing the landscape and moving parts across the country in collegiate athletics, we are grateful to be extended an invitation to the Colonial Women's Golf Conference," said Pamela P. and Brian M. Barefoot Associate Vice President for Athletics and Athletics Advancement Mike Lynch. "Our program has taken incredible strides over its first two years and I'm excited to see what the next chapter of Babson women's golf holds in this newly formed conference."

The CWGC will serve as a home for talented student-athletes, offering them the chance to compete in a supportive and competitive environment that aligns with the principles of Division III athletics, emphasizing both academic success and athletic performance.

"The formation of the Colonial Women's Golf Conference represents a significant step forward for women's golf in Division III," said CWGC Commissioner Chris Roekle. "Our member institutions are committed to fostering high-level competition and providing student-athletes with outstanding opportunities to excel both on the course and in the classroom. We are thrilled to begin this new journey together."
