Box Score PASADENA, Calif.—Three players recorded wins in both singles and doubles to help No. 17 Babson College defeat No. 29 Caltech, 6-1, in non-conference women's tennis action on Saturday afternoon.
With the win, Babson improves to 4-1 overall. Caltech had its four-match winning streak snapped and is now 4-2 on the season.
The Beavers swept all three doubles matches to secure the first point of the match. Senior
Olivia Soffer (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) and junior
Matia Cristiani (San Salvador, El Salvador) recorded a 6-4 win at number one, sophomore
Chaniel Soffer (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) and first-year
Alessandra Cristiani (San Salvador, El Salvador) posted a 6-2 victory at number two, and first-years
Sarai Dorismond (Carlsbad, Calif.) and
Mia Sorrentino (Miami, Fla.) earned a 6-3 triumph at number three.
Four of Babson's five wins in singles came in straight sets, led by
Olivia Soffer beating Yoyo Benchetrit (Toronto, Ontario) 6-0, 6-2 at number one.
Matia Cristiani cruised to a 6-2, 6-3 victory at number two and sister Alessandra registered a 6-2, 6-2 win at number four. Junior
Kamila Stasiowska (Burlington, Conn.) won a first-set tiebreaker before dominating the second set in a 7-6, 6-0 triumph at number six.
Chaniel Soffer dropped the opening set before rallying for a 3-6, 6-3, 10-6 victory at number three singles. Caltech's lone point of the match came at number five singles where Carissa Gerung (Portland, Ore.) edged Dorismond 7-5, 6-4.
Babson returns to action on Friday when it travels to Smith at 4 p.m., while Caltech hosts Colby next Thursday at 1 p.m.
