BEND, Ore.—The Babson College women's alpine ski team placed four competitors among the top-23 finishers on the way to recording a third-place finish in the giant slalom in the United States Collegiate Ski and Snowboard Association (USCSA) National Championship at Mount Bachelor on Tuesday afternoon.
The Beavers' top three finishers posted a time of 6:38.30 in their two runs to come just over 17 seconds behind first-place Rocky Mountain (6:21.11) and 14 seconds off the pace of MacConnell Division rival Castleton, which was the runner-up. Fellow league foe Clarkson was fourth just 0.17 seconds behind Babson, while Northeastern placed fifth.
The Beavers' third-place finish matches the 2022 squad for the program's best finish in the giant slalom at nationals going back to 2016.
First-year
Camryn Knowlton (Montreal, Quebec) was the Beavers' top finisher in 17th position with a two-run time of 2:12.36. Senior
Amelie Alkier (Collingwood, Ontario) moved up five spots after her first run to place 18th with a time of 2:12.74, and sophomore
Sonnie Travis (Park City Utah) trimmed nearly three seconds off her time the second time down the hill to come in 22nd with a time of 2:13.20.
Fellow sophomore
Julia Wiacek (Little Neck, N.Y.) was just 0.22 seconds behind Travis in 23rd place with her time of 2:13.42, while senior
Alli Messier (Sherborn, Mass.) finished 39th with a two-run time of 2:18.39.
Babson will return to Mount Bachelor for the slalom on Thursday beginning at 12 p.m. EDT.
