CARRABASSETT VALLEY, Maine—Three Babson College competitors finished among the top eight on the way to recording a runner-up finish in the giant slalom at the United States Collegiate Ski and Snowboard Association (USCSA) Eastern Regional Championships at Sugarloaf Mountain on Saturday.
The Beavers' top three finishers were 6.65 seconds behind first-place Castleton, which swept the podium, and 2.30 seconds ahead of third-place Northeastern. UMass came in a distant fourth while Maine-Farmington placed fifth.
Sophomore
Sonnie Travis (Park City, Utah) recorded the fourth-fastest second run and came in fourth overall with a time of 1:28.73. First-year
Camryn Knowlton (Montreal, Quebec) finished sixth with a time of 1:29.28 and senior
Amelie Alkier (Collingwood, Ontario) was just 0.25 seconds behind her in eighth position with a time of 1:29.53.
Sophomore
Ava Butler (Goshen, Conn.) finished 17th with a two-run time of 1:32.43, while senior
Alli Messier (Sherborn, Mass.) was unable to finish her first trip down the hill.
Babson will conclude the regional championships on Sunday when it competes in the slalom beginning at 9:30 a.m.
