Alpine Skiing at the USCSA Eastern Regional Championships

WHAT TO KNOW
• Babson and its MacConnell Division rivals Castleton, Clarkson, UConn and UMass will travel to Sugarloaf Mountain for the fourth year in a row and sixth time since 2018 to compete in the USCSA Eastern Regional Championships on Saturday and Sunday.
• The Beavers and their league rivals will compete against the top teams from the Thompson and Reynolds Divisions with the top five schools earning a spot at the USCSA National Championships to be held at Mount Bachelor in Bend, Ore., in early March.
2024 USCSA EASTERN REGIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS HIGHLIGHTS

Ryan Beardsley '24 finished first overall to help the Babson men capture their fifth regional title over the last 11 seasons, while sophomore
Julia Wiacek's third-place showing led the Babson women to a runner-up finish last February at Sugarloaf.
• Beardsley placed third in the giant slalom and sixth in the slalom,
Max Bellino recorded top-10 results to come in fourth in the combined standings and
Lucas Wiacek '24 finished ninth overall as the Beavers took first in the slalom and second in the GS.

Julia Wiacek finished fourth in the GS and fifth in the slalom, while
Caroline Haaijer '24 and sophomore
Sonnie Travis placed fifth and sixth, respectively, in the combined standings for the Babson women, who came in second in both the GS and slalom.
ABOUT THE BABSON MEN
• The Beavers wrapped up a perfect regular season by winning their ninth and 10th regular season races of the season at Berkshire East Mountain and Catamount Mountain.

James Rosenbloom (3rd), sophomore
Mads Fondevik Syversen (4th), first-year
Connor Roy (6th) and junior
Elliot Perretta (7th) all posted top-10 results in the slalom on Saturday at Berskhire East, and Rosenbloom and Roy finished third and fourth, respectively, in Sunday's slalom at Catamount.
• Syversen, who leads all MacConnell Division competitors with five victories, finished the regular season in second place, Perretta (3rd) owns two wins and four podium finishes and Rosenbloom (4th) finished on the podium eight times in 10 starts as a rookie.
• Roy posted seven top-10 finishes on the way to finishing eighth in the regular season standings, while first-year
Moksh Patel (15th) and junior
Sebastian Sheppard (16th) both recorded a pair of top-10 results in the giant slalom.
ABOUT THE BABSON WOMEN
• The Beavers secured a second-place finish in the MacConnell Division standings for the second year in a row thanks to victories in the slalom at Berkshire East Mountain last Saturday and Catamount Mountain on Sunday.

Amelie Alkier came in second at Berkshire East and third at Catamount, Travis placed fourth at Berkshire East and third at Catamount, and senior
Alli Messier and sophomore
Ava Butler posted back-to-back top-10 finishes for the Green and White.
• Alkier recorded three top-five results on the way to finishing fifth in the final MacConnell Division standings, first-year
Camryn Knowlton (6th) finished among the top 10 eight times and Wiacek (7th) boasts three podium finishes.
• Travis finished among the top eight six times in eight starts to place eighth overall, Messier (11th) and Butler (14th) combined for seven top-10s and sophomore
Riley Jerome ended the regular season in 16th place overall thanks to six top-15 results.
SUCCESS AT SUGARLOAF
• The Babson men have recorded three consecutive top-two finishes in the regionals at Sugarloaf, which includes last year's victory and a tie for first place in 2022.
• The Babson women also own three straight top-two results including a first-place showing in 2023.
• Individually, Alkier came in fifth in the slalom, 15th in the giant slalom and ninth in the combined standings back in 2022.
• Butler finished 15th in the slalom and combined standings last winter for the Babson women, while Sheppard placed seventh in the slalom and senior
Zach Carpenter secured 10th place in the GS for the Babson men last winter.
HISTORY LESSON
• The Babson men are making their 17th consecutive appearance at the USCSA Eastern Regional Championships and have finished first five times over the last 11 seasons (2013, 2024, 2017, 2022 2024). They also own a pair of runner-up finishes (2020, 2023) and two third-place results (2018, 2019) during this stretch.
• The Babson women return to the regional championships for the 10th year in a row and have finished no worse than third over their last nine appearances dating back to 2016. In addition to their 2023 regional title, the Beavers have finished as the runner-up four times (2016, 2020, 2022, 2024) and tied for second place in both 2018 and 2019.
WHAT TO WATCH FOR
• The USCSA Eastern Regional Championships have been dominated by the MacConnell Division as of late as the men have grabbed the top three spots in the in the combined standings in three straight years, while the league's women's squads earned four of the top five spots in back-to-back seasons after sweeping the top five positions back in 2022.
• The Babson men are looking to qualify for the USCSA National Championships for the 17th consecutive season and the women are looking to advance to nationals for the ninth year in a row.
