Men's Basketball Looks to Get Back on Track Wednesday Versus Wheaton

SERIES HISTORY

•    Babson is 42-16 all-time against Wheaton in a series that dates back to the 1989-90 campaign. 
•    The Beavers have won 23 of the last 28 games between the teams but have dropped two in a row and three of their last five contests versus the Lyons.
•    The Green and White has dominated the series at home since 2011 going 12-2 versus Wheaton despite a loss two seasons ago. 
•    Four of the last five games between the teams have been decided by eight points or less.

LAST MEETING
•    Tristan Herry scored 17 points, Dimetri Iafrate finished with 15 points and nine rebounds, and Wheaton made nine first-half three-pointers on the way to building a 17-point lead before hanging on to defeat Babson, 73-71, on January 16 in Norton, Mass. 
•    Sean Perri went 4-of-7 from long range and scored 13 points, while Eoin Morrissey added nine points and seven rebounds for the Lyons, who overcame 16 turnovers by shooting 49 percent from the floor. 
•    Graduate student Alex Stoddard led all scorers with 24 points and first-year Timmy Mulvey added 15 points for the Beavers, who closed within two five times in the second half and missed a potential game-winning three-pointer at the buzzer. 

SCOUTING THE BEAVERS
•    Babson (13-9, 7-6 NEWMAC) has dropped three of its last four games and is coming off a 70-52 loss at Springfield on Saturday. 
•    Senior Nate Amado posted a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds to go along with four assists, but the Beavers trailed by as many as 14 late in the first half and shot a season-worst 29.5 percent against the Pride. 
•    Amado (19.2 pts, 8.2 reb, 2.8 reb) ranks first in the NEWMAC in scoring and second in rebounding while shooting 51.1 percent from the floor, graduate student Felix Kloman (18.1 pts, 3.8 reb, 2.3 ast) is second in the conference in scoring and Stoddard (10.7 pts, 3.3 reb) is second on the team and sixth in the league with 45 three-point field goals. 
•    The Green and White ranks first in conference play in scoring offense averaging 75.8 points but are allowing 1.06 points per possession on 44.4 percent shooting versus league foes. 

SCOUTING THE LYONS
•    Wheaton (10-11, 5-7 NEWMAC) has lost two straight and four of its last five games after falling to Salve Regina, 81-67, on Saturday. 
•    Herry scored 17 points, Iafrate finished with 14 points, six rebounds and three assists, and Morrissey added 11 points for the Lyons, who trailed by as many as 15 in the first half and shot just 34.3 percent from the floor and 7-of-31 from beyond the arc (22.6) in the loss. 
•    Herry (15.0 pts, 3.0 reb, 2.7 ast) ranks sixth in the NEWMAC in scoring and is tied for fifth with 48 three-pointers, Iafrate (14.1 pts, 4.6 reb, 3.9 ast, 2.4 stl) is shooting 49.8 percent and leads the conference in steals, and Morrissey (12.9 pts, 6.8 reb, 2.2 ast) has scored in double figures in four of the last five contests. 
•    Wheaton is averaging 70.0 points on 41 percent shooting in conference play but is giving up 72.2 points and ranks eighth in the league in rebounding margin (-3.2). 

PLAYOFF PUSH
•    Despite dropping three of its last four games, Babson remains third in the NEWMAC standings at 7-6, a half-game ahead of fourth-place Springfield (6-6) and one game in front of fifth-place Salve Regina (6-7). 
•    Wheaton enters Wednesday's clash clinging to the sixth and final conference tournament spot at 5-7, one game ahead of both Emerson (4-8) and Coast Guard (4-8). 
•    WPI and Clark have secured the top two seeds in the upcoming NEWMAC Tournament while the third and fourth seeds will host quarterfinals on February 25. 

FEASTING ON NEWMAC FOES
•    Over his last 16 games against conference opponents going back to last February, Amado is averaging 19.9 points on 52.2 percent shooting to go along with 8.1 rebounds. 
•    He has posted five double-doubles and has finished with at least 20 points eight times. 

THREE AT A TIME
•    For the first time since 2015-16, Babson has three players with at least 40 three-point field goals this season in Mulvey (50), Stoddard (45) and Kloman (44).
•    All three players rank among the top seven in the NEWMAC in three-pointers and have combined to shoot 37.1 percent on the year. 
•    Back in 2015-16 the trio of Nick Comenale '18, Joey Flannery '17 and Sam Bohmiller '17 combined to make 147 three-pointers. 

TRENDS TO WATCH
•    Stoddard, who set a new career high with four blocked shots in Saturday's loss at Springfield, is averaging 14.4 points on 45.2 percent shooting in nine games inside Staake Gymnasium this season.
•    Junior Timmy O'Toole ranks seventh in the conference in rebounding (6.9) and second in offensive rebounds per game (2.9). 
•    Amado has scored in double figures in 17 consecutive games dating back to December 1 and ranks second in the NEWMAC with six double-doubles. 
•    Kloman, who is averaging 15.0 points in three outings since returning from injury, has made at least one three-pointer in all 17 games he's played this winter. 
•    Mulvey's 50 three-pointers are six away from the program's freshman record of 56 shared by Mark Giovino '98 and Michael Kingsley '97. 

NUMBERS TO KNOW
•    The Beavers are 7-0 this season and 14-1 since the start of the 2023-24 campaign when holding their opponents below 40 percent shooting. 
•    Babson is 7-0 this winter when making at least 10 three-pointers. 
•    The Green and White is 12-1 on the year with five minutes to play in regulation. 
•    The Beavers are 9-1 on the year when giving up fewer than 70 points.
