MEDFORD, Mass.— Babson College will be represented in the semifinals in both singles and doubles at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) New England Championships after some strong victories on Saturday at Tufts University.
Senior
Alexander Merson (Palisades Park, N.J.), seeded fifth in the A singles draw, posted a pair of victories to advance, while sophomores
Edward Wang (Burr Ridge, Ill.) and
Sebastian Mendoza (Weston, Fla.), seeded second in the doubles draw, also posted back-to-back victories for the Beavers. Both Babson entries will compete in semifinal matches on Sunday morning.
Merson came back from a set down to defeat Andrej Djokic of Tufts, 2-6, 6-4, 7-5, in a third-round match before pulling out a 7-6 (5), 7-5 victory over Garv Bahl of Tufts in the quarterfinals. Merson will face top-seeded Mark Kneiss of Bowdoin in Sunday's semifinal. Wang went down in his third-round singles match to Kiran Garapati of Bowdoin, 6-3, 6-1.
Wang and Mendoza were winners over Mick Tamas and Christian Stubbeman of Bowdoin in a third-round match, 8-6, and came back with an 8-2 triumph over Stavros Mastrogamvrakis and Jason Rich of Tufts in the quarterfinals. The Babson duo will take the court against Garapati and Simon Catanzaro of Bowdoin in Sunday's semifinal.

Sourish Gadhi (Morganville, N.J.) won a third-round match in the B singles draw over Matthew Yang of Williams but lost in the quarterfinals to Nico Tremblay of Tufts.
The doubles semifinals will begin at 9 a.m., followed by the doubles final, and the singles final starts at 10 a.m.
