Women's Alpine Ski Places Fifth in Friday's Giant Slalom at Whiteface Mountain

LAKE PLACID, N.Y.—Senior Alli Messier (Sherborn, Mass.) posted her second consecutive top-10 finish to help the Babson College women's alpine ski team place fifth in the giant slalom at Whiteface Mountain on Friday afternoon.

Castleton swept the podium to finish first in the teams standings for the fourth time in the first five races. UMass came in a distant second, Clarkson came in third and UConn edged the Beavers for fourth place.

Messier recorded a two-run time of 2:18.57, while sophomore Ava Butler (Goshen, Conn.) placed ninth with a time of 2:20.17. Classmate Riley Jerome (Bethel, Maine) was just over a second and a half behind Butler in 10th place with her time of 2:21.71.

Four of Babson's competitors were unable to complete two runs, which included sophomore Julia Wiacek (Little Neck, N.Y.) and first-year Camryn Knowlton (Montreal, Quebec), who were second and fourth, respectively, among MacConnell Division skiers following the first run.

The Beavers return to the slopes a second giant slalom race at Whiteface on Saturday at 10 a.m.
