BRUNSWICK, Maine—Senior
Olivia Soffer (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) and junior
Grace Starcher (Morristown, N.J.) both won a pair of singles matches to advance to the semifinals of their respective draws at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) New England Championships on Saturday at Bowdoin College.
Soffer, who is seeded second in the 64-player singles A draw, defeated Tina She of Amherst, 6-2, 6-1, in the third round before making quick work of Middlebury's Elise Van Wieren with a 6-0, 6-1 triumph in the quarterfinals. She will now face third-seeded Fiona Lee of MIT in Sunday's semifinals with a spot in the ITA Cup on the line.
Starcher continued her successful run through the B singles draw with two more victories on Saturday. She downed Amelie Gal of Colby 6-1, 6-1 in the third round and then outlasted Evelina Anastasi of Tufts in the quarterfinals, 6-3, 1-6, 10-7.

Matia Cristiani (San Salvador, El Salvador) had her bid to repeat is the ITA New England singles champion derailed in the Round of 16 with a 6-2, 6-1 loss to Jackie Soloveychick of Wesleyan. First-year
Sarai Dorismond (Carlsbad, Calif.) won her third round matchup with Isabelle Hartung of Bowdoin, 6-3, 6-4, before suffering an 0-6, 6-4, 6-0 loss to Lee of MIT in the quarterfinals.
Fifth-seeded
Alessandra Cristiani (San Salvador, El Salvador) and juniors
Elena Keitt (Austin, Texas) and
Shyla Khattar (New Delhi, India) all suffered straight-set losses in the third round of the B singles draw.
Olivia Soffer and
Matia Cristiani, the defending ITA New England and NCAA doubles champions, were upset in Saturday's quarterfinals falling to seventh-seeded Renna Moshen-Breen and Lane Durkin of Wesleyan, 8-3. The Beavers' top duo advanced to the quarterfinals with an 8-1 win over Caroline Stuhlfaut and Julia Ross of Bowdoin in the third round.
Starcher will play her B draw semifinal match at 10 a.m. on Sunday, while Soffer gets her A draw semifinal underway at 12 p.m.
