WELLESLEY, Mass.—Two doubles pairings swept a pair of matches as the Babson College women's tennis team got its season underway on day one of the Wellesley Invitational on Friday afternoon.
Senior
Olivia Soffer (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) and junior
Matia Cristiani (San Salvador, El Salvador), the reigning Division III national champions, opened with a 6-3 victory over Rebecca Suarez and Nancy Zhang of Brandeis before concluding the session with a 6-1 triumph over Sara Beckman and Natalie Sprenger of UC-Santa Cruz. First-years
Sarai Dorismond (Carlsbad, Calif.) and
Alessandra Cristiani (San Salvador, El Salvador) were 6-3 winners over Bhakti Parwani of Mandy Reyes of Brandeis in their Beavers' debut and then backed it up by claiming a 6-1 decision over Ella Baker and Allie Francis of Trinity.
Sophomore
Riya Matharoo (Dubai, United Arab Emirates) and junior
Grace Starcher (Morristown, N.J.) posted a 6-2 victory over Brennan Damond and Naisha Rathi of Trinity, while junior
Elena Keitt (Austin, Texas) and sophomore
Chaniel Soffer (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) also picked up a 6-1 win over Kendall Cedar and Julia Clark of Trinity for the Green and White.
Babson will play two sets of singles matches at the Wellesley Invitational on Saturday beginning at 9 a.m.
