Men's Hoops Hosts No. 11 WPI on Saturday

SERIES HISTORY

•    Babson is 52-40 all-time against WPI in a series that dates back to the 1974-75 campaign. 
•    The Engineers have won seven of the last nine games between the teams although both of the Beavers' victories have come in the conference playoffs.  
•    The Green and White has dropped its last four games at home to WPI and is looking for its first victory over the Engineers inside Staake Gymnasium since 2019. 
•    Three of the last five games between the teams have been decided by six points or less. 

LAST MEETING
•    Steph Baxter M'24 poured in 36 points to lead four players in double figures as fourth-seeded Babson upset top-seeded WPI, 73-57, in a NEWMAC Tournament semifinal on February 22, 2024, in Worcester, Mass. 
•    Senior Nate Amado finished with 15 points and seven rebounds, junior Timmy O'Toole scored 11 points on 4-of-5 shooting and senior David Cross added 10 points and two assists for the Beavers, who shot 46.3 percent and outscored the Engineers 39-25 in the second half. 
•    John Adams had 17 points and 12 rebounds, while senior Aidan Callahan and JR Newman both scored 10 points for WPI, which outscored the Green and White 34-26 in the paint. 

SCOUTING THE BEAVERS
•    Babson (3-4, 0-1 NEWMAC) suffered a 64-62 loss at Emerson in its conference opener on Wednesday night. 
•    Graduate student Felix Kloman and first-year Timmy Mulvey both scored 16 points and Amado added 15 points, seven rebounds and two blocks for the Beavers, who led by as many as seven midway through the second half but shot a season-worst 32.1 percent in the loss. 
•    Kloman (18.6 pts, 4.3 reb) is shooting 47.3 percent from the floor and has scored in double figures in five straight games, Amado (16.7 pts, 8.4 reb, 3.6 ast) leads the team in rebounds and assists, and Mulvey (12.7 pts, 3.4 ast) is shooting 54.8 percent from three-point range. 
•    The Green and White is averaging 74.0 points on 44.3 percent shooting and is committing just 11.4 turnovers. 

SCOUTING THE ENGINEERS
•    WPI (8-0, 1-0 NEWMAC) defeated Salve Regina 86-65 to match its best start since 2004-05 on Tuesday night. 
•    Callahan scored a game-high 26 points on 10-of-16 shooting while dishing out six assists, Tim Reidy score 18 points and Brett Marelli posted his first career double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds for the Engineers, who shot 49.2 percent and grabbed a season-high 14 offensive boards in the victory. 
•    Callahan (18.1 pts, 6.3 ast, 3.6 reb) is shooting 57 percent and has dished out at least four assists in every game, Reidy (15.1 pts, 2.1 reb) has made a team-high 27 three-pointers and is shooting 43.5 percent from long distance, and Nicholas Margetson (11.8 pts, 5.3 reb) has scored in double figures in seven of eight games. 
•    WPI is averaging 79.4 points on 48 percent shooting and ranks fifth in Division III in three-point field goal defense holding its foes to just 23.1 percent shooting.

SUCCESS IN THE NEWMAC
•    Babson, which has captured back-to-back conference tournament championships, collected five first-place votes and 61 points to finish atop the league's preseason poll ahead of last year's runner-up Clark (59 points) and WPI (49 points), which has claimed three consecutive regular season titles. 
•    In 10 seasons going back to 2013-14, the Beavers boast a .761 winning percentage in the regular season against NEWMAC foes (108-34) and have recorded nine top-three finishes, which includes finishing atop the standings in 2015, 2016, 2017. 
•    The Green and White has won 10 or more games eight times in league play during this stretch and is coming off an 8-8 finish last winter. 

AMADO EARNS CONFERENCE HONOR
•    After posting his first double-double of the year and matching his career in steals on Sunday at Brandeis, Amado was tabbed as the NEWMAC Defensive Player of the Week on Monday. 
•    He finished with a season-best five steals to go along with 18 points and 13 boards while helping the Beavers hold Brandeis to just 37.9 percent shooting and 32 points below its season average. 

BEAVER BITES
•    Mulvey ranks 11th in Division III in three-point field goal percentage (.548) and 21st in three-pointers per game (3.29). 
•    Kloman has scored at least 15 points in five straight outings. 
•    Amado, who has scored in double figures in 16 of the last 17 games, matched his season high with 12 free throw attempts on Wednesday at Emerson. 
•    O'Toole ranks third among NEWMAC players with 19 offensive rebounds over the first seven games. 
•    Senior Aidan Horan scored in double figures in both of Babson's regular season games against WPI last season.
•    Junior Tyler Lauder grabbed a career-high 12 rebounds in last year's NEWMAC semifinal victory over the Engineers. 

NUMBERS TO KNOW
•    The Beavers are 3-0 when holding their opponents below 40 percent shooting while WPI has shot 42 percent or better in seven of its eight wins. 
•    Babson is 3-1 this season and 14-6 over the last two years when outrebounding its opponents. 
•    In its three wins this season the Green and White has held opponents to 34.1 percent shooting overall and just 23.2 percent from three-point range.  
•    The Beavers have not started 0-2 in conference play since 2012-13.

•    Babson travels to Wooster, Ohio, for the E.M. "Mose" Hole/Wooster Kiwanis Classic and will face Case Western Reserve and No. 13 Wooster on December 30-31.
