Men's Basketball Opens NEWMAC Play at Emerson on Wednesday

SERIES HISTORY

•    Babson is 32-6 all-time against Emerson in a series that dates back to the 1951-52 campaign. 
•    The Beavers and Lions have split the regular season series in each of the last two seasons and seven of the last eight games have been decided by single digits, which includes five contests by five points or less or in overtime. 
•    The Green and White is 2-2 in its last four visits to Brownand Plofker Gymnasium since 2022 with all four games decided by nine points or fewer. 

LAST MEETING
•    Brendan McNamara led four players in double figures with 18 points on 8-of-11 shooting and dished out a game-high six assists to help Emerson rally for a  79-75 win over Babson on January 20, 2024, in Boston. 
•    Asher Gardiner scored 13 points and Trevor Arico and Shay Roban both added 11 points for the Lions, who shot 55.7 percent from the floor and outscored the Beavers 30-20 in the paint. 
•    Steph Baxter M'24 finished with 16 points, seven rebounds and five assists, senior Nate Amado added 14 points on 6-of-7 shooting and Parker Mason chipped in with 11 points for the Green and White, which led 70-56 with just over 10 minutes to play. 

SCOUTING THE BEAVERS
•    Babson (3-3, 0-0 NEWMAC) has won back-to-back games after defeating previously-unbeaten Brandeis, 77-63, on Sunday afternoon in Waltham, Mass. 
•    Graduate student Felix Kloman sored a game-high 22 points, Amado added 18 points, 13 rebounds and five steals, and junior Timmy O'Toole contributed a season-high 12 points for the Beavers, who shot 58.6 percent in the opening half. 
•    Kloman (19.0 pts, 3.8 reb, 1.8 blk) has scored 20 or more points in three consecutive games, Amado (17.0 pts, 8.7 reb, 3.8 ast) leads in rebounding, assists and steals, and first-year Timmy Mulvey (12.2 pts, 3.5 ast) is shooting 57.6 percent from three-point range. 
•    The Green and White is averaging 76.0 points on 46.1 percent shooting and owns a +4.9 rebounding margin over its first six outings. 

SCOUTING THE LIONS
•    Emerson (4-2, 0-0 NEWMAC) has won two straight games after pulling away for a 77-63 victory over Emerson on Saturday. 
•    Jacob Armant led four players in double figures with 22 points on 7-of-10 shooting and Gardiner and Linus Helmhold both added 12 points for the Lions, who shot 53.1 percent and opened the second half with a 14-5 run. 
•    Arico (14.7 pts, 2.8 reb) has scored in double figures in three straight contests, Armant (13.7 pts, 3.0 ast) has gone 6-of-9 from three-point range over the last two games and Lucas Brenner (11.3 pts, 2.8 reb, 2.8 ast) is shooting 50 percent from the floor and 45.9 percent from beyond the arc. 
•    Emerson, who has shot 53 percent or better in three of its four wins, is averaging 81.3 points in its four wins and just 61.0 points in its two losses this winter. 

SUCCESS IN THE NEWMAC
•    Babson, which has captured back-to-back conference tournament championships, collected five first-place votes and 61 points to finish atop the league's preseason poll ahead of last year's runner-up Clark (59 points) and WPI (49 points), which has claimed three consecutive regular season titles. 
•    In 10 seasons going back to 2013-14, the Beavers boast a .766 winning percentage in the regular season against NEWMAC foes (108-33) and have recorded nine top-three finishes, which includes finishing atop the standings in 2015, 2016, 2017. 
•    The Green and White has won 10 or more games eight times in league play during this stretch and is coming off an 8-8 finish last winter. 

AMADO EARNS CONFERENCE HONOR
•    After posting his first double-double of the year and matching his career in steals on Sunday at Brandeis, Amado was tabbed as the NEWMAC Defensive Player of the Week on Monday. 
•    He finished with a season-best five steals to go along with 18 points and 13 boards while helping the Beavers hold Brandeis to just 37.9 percent shooting and 32 points below its season average. 

EFFICIENT ON OFFENSE
•    The Green and White is averaging 1.11 points per possession through its first six games and is shooting 52.8 percent on two-point field goal attempts. 
•    The Beavers are also outscoring their foes by eight points per game from beyond the arc and have turned the ball over on just 17 percent of their possessions. 
•    In its wins over Albertus Magnus and Brandeis last week, Babson put up 1.20 point per possession on 46.1 percent shooting to go along with an offensive rebounding rate of 36.8 percent.

BEAVER BITES
•    O'Toole, who finished with four on Sunday at Brandeis, has grabbed at least two offensive boards in 10 consecutive games going back to last season. 
•    Mulvey ranks 10th in Division III in three-point field goal percentage (57.6) and 45th in three-pointers per game (3.17). 
•    Amado has scored in double figures in 13 of his last 14 games dating back to last year. 
•    Kloman is averaging 21.0 points over the last three games and is shooting 50 percent (12-of-24) from beyond the arc during this stretch. 

NUMBERS TO KNOW
•    In its three wins this season Babson has held opponents to 34.1 percent shooting overall and just 23.2 percent from three-point range.  
•    The Beavers went 19-of-21 from the free throw line in the second half of Sunday's win at Brandeis and are shooting 73.8 percent (45-of-61) at the charity stripe over their last three contests. 
•    Babson allowed 68 points or fewer in nine of its final 10 games against NEWMAC opponents last winter. 
•    Going back to the start of last season, the Beavers are 16-2 when leading with five minutes to play.
