Men's Hoops Travels to Ohio for E.M. "Mose" Hole Classic Beginning Sunday

The Beavers Return from Break with Challenges Against Case Western Reserve and No. 6 Wooster

WHAT TO KNOW

•    The Babson men's basketball team returns from the holiday break on Sunday and Monday at the E.M. "Mose" Hole/Kiwanis Classic hosted by No. 6 Wooster. 
•    The 61st edition of the tournament will feature a classic format t that has the Beavers taking on Case Western Reserve on Sunday night before meeting the unbeaten Fighting Scots on Monday and hour south of Cleveland.

SCOUTING THE BEAVERS
•    Babson (4-4) wrapped up the fall semester with a 71-60 victory over then-11th-ranked WPI back on December 7. 
•    Graduate student Felix Kloman led four players in double figures with 21 points, senior Nate Amado added 18 points on 6-of-11 shooting and junior Timmy O'Toole finished with 15 points and 14 rebounds for the Beavers, who held the visiting Engineers to just 34.4 percent shooting in the win. 
•    Kloman (18.9 pts, 4.3 reb, 1.8 blocks) has scored in double figures in six consecutive games, Amado (16.9 pts, 8.4 reb, 3.3 ast) is shooting 46.7 percent from the floor and first-year Timmy Mulvey (11.1 pts, 3.3 ast) has connected on 50 percent of his three-point attempts in eight starts this winter. 
•    The Green and White ranks 26th in Division III in adjusted offense and 34th in adjusted defense according to The D3 Datacast to go along with rebounding margin of 4.3 through eight outings. 

SCOUTING THE SPARTANS
•    Case Western Reserve (4-5) has dropped five of its last six games and is coming off an 80-72 loss to Denison back on December 14. 
•    Sam Trunley scored 24 points, Umar Rashid added 19 points and three blocks and Andy Barba chipped in with 11 points and five rebounds for the Spartans, who shot just 24.9 percent in the first half and trailed by as many as 18 with under 15 minutes to play in the game. 
•    Trunley (24.3 pts, 6.9 reb, 3.0 ast) is shooting 48.6 percent and has scored 20 or more points in four of the last five contests, Rashid (16.3 pts, 9.0 reb, 2.7 blocks) leads the team with four double-doubles and Barba (12.9 pts, 4.4 reb), a transfer from Duquesne, leads the team in three-point field goal attempts (70) and has knocked down at least two triples in eight of nine outings. 
•    CWRU ranks fourth in Division III in three-point attempts per game (35.0), 15th in three-pointers (11.3) and 31st in scoring average (86.3 points) but is 352nd nationally in adjusted defense. 

SCOUTING THE FIGHTING SCOTS
•    No. 6 Wooster (10-0) is off to its best start since 2010-11 after defeating Division II Hawaii Pacific, 45-43, last Saturday. 
•    Jamir Billings scored 13 points and knocked down the go-ahead three-pointer with 1:41 remaining, while Jaiden Cox-Holloway added 10 points and 10 rebounds for the Fighting Scots, who opened the game with an 18-0 run. 
•    Ashton Price (21.2 pts, 2.8 reb), who has missed the last four games, is shooting 52.6 percent on the year, Billings (14.6 pts, 5.4 reb, 4.8 ast) is shooting 45.9 percent from three-point range over the last four contests and Nick Everett (11.2 pts, 4.4 reb) has scored in double figures five times while shooting 61.5 percent in eight starts. 
•    Wooster ranks 17th in Division III in field goal percentage (49.2) and is 18th nationally in adjusted offense and 30th in adjusted defense. 

HISTORY LESSON
•    Although Sunday's matchup will be Babson's first all-time against Case Western Reserve, Beavers' head coach Stephen Brennan will match up against Spartans' head coach Todd McGuinness for the second time. Led by Brennan, the Green and White defeated the Hartwick squad led by McGuinnes, 80-69, in the first round of the NCAA Tournament back in 2016.  
•    Sunday's matchup against Wooster will mark the first time that Babson has faced an opponent from the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) in program history. 
•    The Beavers games in Wooster are also their first in the state of Ohio since 1996 when they faced Gosen (December 28) and Earlham (December 29) at the Marietta Tournament. 

WINNING FORMULA
•    In its four victories this season, Babson has allowed 63 points or fewer while holding its opponents to just 34.2 percent shooting overall and 26.6 percent from beyond the arc. 
•    Offensively, the Beavers are averaging 1.10 points per possession on 42.2 percent shooting and have rebounded 36.1 percent of their missed shots leading to 54 second-chance points. 

FINDING HIS RANGE
•    After scoring just 10 points over his first four appearances for the Green and White, senior Alex Stoddard is averaging 15.0 points on 45 percent shooting over his last two games. 
•    He knocked down a season-high four three-pointers and scored 15 points in an 83-50 win over Albertus Magnus on November 27 and then returned from a two-game absence by playing a season-high 25 minutes and finishing with 15 points, five rebounds and three assists to spark the Beavers to a 71-60 victory over WPI on December 7. 

BEAVER BITES
•    O'Toole has grabbed multiple offensive rebounds in 11 of his last 12 games dating back to last year and finished with a season-high seven offensive boards in the win over WPI. 
•    Amado, who became just the 17th player in program history to surpass 500 career rebounds in the victory over Brandeis on December 1, rejected three shots versus WPI and is now fifth on the program's all-time list with 71 blocks. 
•    Mulvey ranks 11th in Division III in three-point field goal percentage and 58th in three-pointers per game (2.58). 

NUMBERS TO KNOW
•    The Beavers are 4-1 this season when holding their opponents below 70 points. CWRU has scored at least 72 points in every game this season, while Wooster has been held below 74 points just once. 
•    Babson is 4-0 this year and 29-3 since the start of the 2021-22 campaign when holding its opponents below 40 percent shooting. 
•    The Green and White is 4-1 this winter when outrebounding its foes. 
•    Babson is 4-2 on the season when leading at halftime.

•    The Beavers will face their second consecutive nationally-ranked opponent when the host No. 3 Trinity inside Staake Gymnasium on January 4 at 1:30 p.m.
