Box Score O'Reilly Outdueled by Doty's Perfect Game for Jumbos
BABSON PARK, Mass.—First-year Emilie Doty (Arlington, Va.) struck out seven and retired all 21 batters she faced to help No. 9 Tufts University defeat Babson College, 1-0, in non-conference softball action on Wednesday afternoon at Alumni Field.
Babson has dropped two straight games to slip to 17-14 on the year, while Tufts improves to 27-2 with its fifth consecutive victory.
Junior Moira O'Reilly (Columbus, Ohio) went the distance in the circle for the Beavers allowing just one run on two hits to go along with six strikeouts. She is now 14-3 on the year after suffering her first loss since March 11.
Doty (8-1) was superb for the Jumbos striking out seven on the way to recording her first career no-hitter and the program's first perfect game since 2019 when Kristi Van Meter retired all 15 hitters she faced in a five-inning victory over Bowdoin.
O'Reilly worked around a leadoff single by junior Bela Jimenez (Oak Park, Calif.) in the top of the first and also stranded Jimenez after she drew a walk to start the third inning. Senior Rachel Moore (Atkinson, N.H.) reached on a dropped pop-up to begin the fourth inning but O'Reilly was able to get a pair of flyouts and a ground ball to first to keep the game scoreless.
Moore provided the only run of the game in the top of the sixth as she hit her team-leading fifth home run to right center to give Tufts a 1-0 lead. Senior Kat Yuzefpolsky (Altadena, Calif.) made a diving catch on Babson junior Caroline Taylor's (Biddeford, Maine) sinking line drive down the left field line to keep the perfect game intact in the last of the sixth and made a sliding grab of sophomore Sara Moore's (Kennett Square, Pa.) to start the seventh.
Babson returns to action on Friday at 3 p.m. when it travels across town for a doubleheader at Wellesley, while Tufts hosts Wesleyan on Saturday beginning at 1 p.m.
