O’Reilly Receives Fourth Straight Pitcher of the Year Award as Four from Softball Earn All-NEWMAC Honors

O’Reilly, Moore, Pak named to First Team, Whiteford Earns Second Team Accolades

MARLBOROUGH, Mass.—Graduate student Moira O'Reilly (Columbus, Ohio) received her fourth straight Pitcher of the Year award and four members of the Babson College softball team were recognized when the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) announced its postseason award winners on Tuesday morning.

O'Reilly was named All-Conference First Team for the fourth straight year and was joined on the First Team by senior outfielder Sara Moore (Kennett Square, Pa.) and junior outfielder Sophia Pak (New Rochelle, N.Y.), while graduate student pitcher Cameron Whiteford (Centerville, Md.) was voted to the Second Team. O'Reilly is the first athlete in NEWMAC history to receive four consecutive Pitcher of the Year honors and Moore becomes a four-time All-Conference selection, three times on the First Team. The All-NEWMAC teams are chosen by a vote of the conference head coaches.

A left-handed ace, O'Reilly enjoyed another standout season for the Beavers, finishing with a 9-7 record, a 1.75 earned run average , and 126 strikeouts in 111.1 innings. She ranked third in the NEWMAC in ERA and batting average against (.207) as well as fifth in strikeouts. She had four games with at least 10 strikeouts and 13 games with at least six whiffs.

O'Reilly wrapped up her career as one of the top pitchers in Division III history. She finished with a record of 69-30 with a 1.73 ERA, 900 strikeouts in 668.2 innings, and 23 shutouts in 114 appearances. She is the Babson career leader in appearances, starts (102), innings, wins, complete games (75), shutouts, strikeouts, and strikeouts per seven innings, and ranks third in ERA. She leads all active active pitchers in Division III in strikeouts and ranks third in strikeouts per seven innings (9.32) and innings pitched, fourth in games started, and fifth in complete games.

A two-time all-region outfielder, Moore had another terrific season for the Green and White, batting a career-high .425 with 62 hits, three doubles, two triples, 18 runs batted in, 34 runs scored and matching her career high with 32 stolen bases. She led the NEWMAC in stolen bases and ranked third in hits and fifth in runs scored. She ended the season with hits in her last 16 games as well as producing multi-hit games in 12 of those 16 games and 21 overall.

Moore, a four-year mainstay in right field for the Beavers, has started all 176 games of her career, batting .388 with 224 hits, a .441 on-base percentage, 25 doubles, six triples, two home runs, 68 RBI, 130 runs scored, and 102 stolen bases. She is the program career leader in stolen bases, and ranks second in hits, fourth in runs scored, fifth in batting average, sixth in on-base percentage, and ninth in triples.

A three-year starter, Pak had a breakout season for the Beavers and led the team in batting (.481), hits (63) and runs batted in (24). She started in center field in all 41 games and produced three doubles, two triples, and 22 runs scored. She led the NEWMAC in batting average and ranked second in hits. She ended the season with a 15-game hitting streak and had multiple hits in 18 games, including a 4-for-4 performance in a win over Wheaton and three hits in the NEWMAC Tournament final against MIT.

Babson's starter in center field 97 of her 105 career games, Pak has a .347 career batting average with 101 hits, including 11 doubles, four triples, one home run, 46 RBI, and 42 runs scored. She has a .414 career on-base percentage and a .423 slugging percentage.

Whiteford had an outstanding performance in her one season at Babson after transferring from the University of Rhode Island. She was a strong sidekick to O'Reilly on the Beaver pitching staff and finished with a 13-6 record, a 1.04 earned run average, five shutouts, two no-hitters, and 126 strikeouts in 126.1 innings. She finished second in the NEWMAC in batting average against (.168), third in complete games (14), fourth in strikeouts, and fifth in both wins and ERA. She had five double-digit strikeout games, and 10 games when she fanned at least batters.

Babson finished with a 26-15 overall record and took second in the NEWMAC with a 14-6 conference record. The Beavers advanced to the NEWMAC title game for the second year in a row under first-year head coach Tori Roche.
