Women's Soccer Travels to No. 14 MIT for Saturday's NEWMAC Tournament Final

Women's Soccer at No. 14 MIT
NEWMAC Tournament Final
Saturday, November 4 | 1 p.m.
Roberts Field | Cambridge, Mass.

SERIES HISTORY
•    Babson is 25-13-7 all-time against MIT in a series that dates back to 1995.
•    The Beavers snapped a 13-match winless streak against the Engineers just over two weeks ago in the regular season meeting between the teams.
•    Ten of the last 24 games between the sides have gone to overtime with 18 of the contests decided by no more than a goal.
•    The Green and White is seeking its first win in Cambridge over MIT since 1999.

POSTSEASON HISTORY
•    Saturday's match will be the first in the conference playoffs since 2013 when Babson fell to MIT on penalty kicks following a 0-0 draw.
•    The Beavers are 3-0-3 in six previous conference tournament matchups and came out on top in penalties against the Engineers after two of the three ties.
•    Babson and MIT will meet in the final for the first time on Saturday.

LAST MEETING
•    Junior Jordyn Ferrantino scored in the 34th minute and senior Olivia Maltbie converted a penalty kick in the 63rd minute to help the Beavers defeat then-ninth-ranked MIT, 2-1, on October 18 in Babson Park.
•    Senior Cassie Lawson had an assist and junior goalkeeper Nora Ryan made a career-high 12 saves for the Beavers.
•    Arianna Doss had a goal and Ashley English picked up an assist for the Engineers, who got four saves from Morgan Everett.

SCOUTING THE BEAVERS
•    Second-seeded Babson (12-5-3) advanced to its first conference final since 2015 with a 2-1 2OT win over third-seeded Emerson on Thursday afternoon.
•    Lawson tied the game in the 77th minute and completed her brace 3:10 into the first overtime session for the Beavers, who got seven saves from Ryan and limited the Lions to just one shot in extra time.
•    Ferrantino (11-3-25) ranks second in the league in goals and is tied for second in points, graduate student Morgan Krauss (6-7-19) is second in the conference in assists and Lawson (5-4-14) has produced at least a point in six of the last seven matches.
•    Ryan (6-0-1) has started the last seven games and owns a 1.24 goals against average and a .831 save percentage in nine appearances this fall.

SCOUTING THE ENGINEERS
•    Top-seeded and 14th-ranked MIT (18-3-1) has won four consecutive matches and routed fourth-seeded Springfield 6-1 in Thursday's semifinals.
•    Natalie Barnouw, Macy Lehrer, Julie Chen, Mia Sedgwick and Sean Luk all scored and Meagan Rowlett provided two assists for the Engineers, who led 3-0 at halftime.
•    Rowlett (13-9-35) owns a four-game points streak and leads the NEWMAC in scoring, Barnouw (10-5-25) is tied for second in the conference in points and English (7-5-19) has two goals and two assists over the last three matches.
•    Everett (16-3-1) has started 21 of 22 games and leads the league in both goals against average (0.79) and shutouts (9) to go along with a .805 save percentage.

BEAVERS IN THE POSTSEASON
•    The Green and White is making its 37th consecutive conference tournament appearance, which dates back to the formation of the NEW 6 Conference in 1987.
•    Babson is 4-3-2 in nine previous conference tournament final appearances but is looking to hoist its first NEWMAC trophy since 1998 when it defeated Wellesley, 1-0.
•    The Beavers, which fell to Springfield in penalties in their last finals appearance in 2015, won their lone NEWMAC Tournament championship in 1998 after claiming back-to-back NEW 8 Tournament titles in 1992 and 1993.

FINISHING TOUCH
•    Ferrantino's tally on Saturday helped her become the first Babson player to score at least 10 goals since 2021 when Amy Festa '13 finished with 12 markers.
•    Her 26 points are also the most by a Babson player since 2012 and are tied for 13th in single-season program history.

VETERAN PRODUCTION
•    During the current seven-game unbeaten run, the Beavers have outscored their opponents 17-8.
•    Ferrantino (4g, 1a), Knauf (3g, 2a), Krauss (2g, 3a), Maltbie (3g) and senior Cassie Lawson (3g, 4a) have combined for 15 goals and 10 assists during this stretch.
•    In addition to Lawson's four-game points streak, both Ferrantino and Krauss have contributed at least one point in three consecutive matches.

REGIONAL IMPACT
•    The Beavers, who were second, were among three NEWMAC teams listed when NCAA released its third Region II rankings on Wednesday.
•    MIT, which suffered its only loss of the conference season to Babson, is ranked first in the region.
•    The loser of Saturday's final will more than likely be the first team from the region on the board when the NCAA Tournament committee makes its at-large selections ahead of Monday's bracket unveiling.

WHEN 90 MINUTES ISN'T ENOUGH
•    Since regular season overtime was scrapped prior to the 2022 season, Thursday's contest was the Beavers' first decided beyond 90 minutes since the 2021 NEWMAC quarterfinals when they finished in a 0-0 draw with WPI.
•    The OT victory over the Lions was Babson's first since 2016.

SUCCESS ON THE ROAD
•    The Green and White enters Saturday's final with a 6-1-1 record in road matches this season with the lone loss coming at Bowdoin back on October 1.
•    The Beavers are 14-2-4 in their last 20 road games going back to the end of the 2021 season and are unbeaten in their last five (4-0-1).

NUMBERS TO KNOW
•    The Beavers are 9-0-2 this year when leading at halftime.
•    Babson is 8-2-2 when scoring the first goal of the match this fall.
•    After winning just four times from 2018-22 when falling behind 1-0, the Beavers are 4-3-1 this season when conceding the opening goal, which includes victories in both of their conference tournament matches.
•    The Green and White is unbeaten in 11 matches this fall (9-0-2) when conceding one goal or fewer.
•    The Beavers are 10-1-1 on the year and 31-2-1 since 2021 when scoring at least two goals.

•    All tickets must be purchased online through the NEWMAC Box Office for all rounds of this year's conference tournament.
