Men's Hoops Travels to St. Louis for the Lopata Classic at WashU Beginning Friday Night

WHAT TO KNOW

•    The Babson men's basketball team will travel to the Lopata Classic for the fourth time in program history and first time since 2007 this weekend. 
•    The Beavers meet the host Bears on Friday night and will take on either Hanover or Wisconsin-Eau Claire on Saturday.

SERIES HISTORY
•    Babson is 1-2 all-time against WashU in a series that dates back to 1993 and has never faced Hanover or Wisconsin-Eau Claire. 
•    The Beavers suffered a 97-80 loss to WashU in their first trip to the Lopata Classic in 1993 before returning the favor with a 118-101 win in the championship game of the 2007 event. 

LAST MEETING
•    Babson suffered a 68-66 loss to WashU in the championship game of the Lopata Classic on December 1, 2007, in St. Louis. 

SCOUTING THE BEAVERS
•    Babson (1-1) is coming off a 75-72 loss at Albertus Magnus last Saturday. 
•    Junior Nate Amado scored a career-high 32 points and junior Aidan Horan and sophomore Timmy O'Toole added 10 points apiece for the Beavers, who committed 20 turnovers and were outscored 21-7 at the free throw line. 
•    Amado is averaging 25.0 points on 52.8 percent shooting, 6.0 rebounds and 4.5 assists, graduate student Steph Baxter (11.5 pts, 3.0 reb, 3.0 ast) is shooting 47.6 percent and Horan is contributing 8.0 points and 3.5 boards off the bench. 
•    The Green and White graduated three of its top four scorers but returns nine players from a team that finished 19-9 after making its third straight NCAA Tournament appearance last winter. 

SCOUTING THE BEARS
•    No. 22 WashU (2-0) followed up a 20-point win over No. 11 Swarthmore with a 67-61 victory over No. 12 Johns Hopkins last Sunday in the inaugural Scholars Classic in New York City. 
•    Drake Kindsvater led four players in double figures with 14 points and nine rebounds and Hayden Doyle contributed 12 points, seven boards and four assists for the Bears, who outscored the Blue Jays 42-25 i the second half. 
•    Doyle (17.5 pts, 8.0 reb, 4.5 ast) is shooting 56 percent from the floor, Kindsvater is averaging 17.0 points and 7.0 rebounds, and Yogi Oliff (9.5 pts, 5.0 ast, 4.5 reb) leads the team in assists and is shooting 61.5 percent. 
•     WashU returns four of its top five scorers from a team that finished 20-7 and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament in 2022-23. 

SCOUTING THE PANTHERS
•    Hanover (2-1) is coming off a 96-69 win over Wilmington on Sunday in Cincinnati. 
•    William Herald led five players in double figures with 16 points, Max Greenamoyer added 13 points and Ty Houston and Michael Donoho both scored 12 for the Panthers, who finished with a 42-30 edge in paint scoring. 
•    Herald is averaging 14.0 points and shooting 70.6 percent (12-of-17) from beyond the arc, Avery Saunders (10.7 pts, 4.3 preb) is shooting 58.3 percent from the floor and Greenamoyer is contributing 9.7 points and 3.0 rebounds in a team-high 21.0 minutes per game. 
•    Hanover, which was picked third in the HCAC preseason poll, went 17-10 and advanced to the conference tournament semifinals last winter. 

SCOUTING THE BLUGOLDS
•    Wisconsin-Eau Claire (1-1) picked up its first win of the season with an 82-69 victory over Saint John's (Minn.) on Tuesday night. 
•    Michael Casper scored 20 points, Gunnar Tebon added 17 points on 7-of-10 shooting and Carter Huschka chipped in with 16 poins, seven rebounds, five blocks and three assists for the Blugolds, who shot 60 percent in the second half. 
•    Huschka (18.5 pts, 7.0 reb, 3.0 blocks) is shooting 55.6 percent from the floor, Casper is averaging 14.5 points and 4.5 boards and Cade Hall (14.5 pts, 9.0 reb) has one double-double on the year. 
•    Wisconsin-Eau Claire returns three of its top five scorers from a team that finished 17-10 overall after advancing to the WIAC semifinals last winter. 

FIRING FROM DEEP
•    The Beavers have attempted 71 three-point field goals over their first two games, which accounts for 51.8 percent over their overall shots. 
•    They have outscored their opponents 72-27 from beyond the arc and the quartet of Amado (7), Horan (4), Baxter (3) and sophomore Jeremiah Paul (3) have combined for 17 trifectas. 

STREAKING BEAVERS
•    Amado has scored at least 17 points in five straight games going back to last year and is averaging 21.6 points per outing during this stretch. 
•    O'Toole has grabbed at least one offensive rebound in each of his 29 career games, which snaring six through two games this season. 

BEAVERS IN THE MIDWEST
•    The trip to St. Louis is the first of two to the Midwest this season for Babson, which also played games in Holland, Mich., and Chicago last December. 
•    The Beavers will visit Oshkosh, Wis., for games against Wisconsin-Oshkosh and Wisconsin-Stout on December 29-30. 

NUMBERS TO KNOW
•    The Beavers are 14-3 since the start of last year when shooting 40 percent or better from the floor. 
•    Babson is 26-2 going back to the 2021-22 season when outrebounding its opponents. 
•    The Green and White has won seven of its last 10 games decided by five points or less since 2021-22. 
•    The Beavers are 17-3 since the start of last season when holding their foes below 70 points.
