Women’s Soccer to Visit Smith for NEWMAC Contest on Saturday

SERIES HISTORY
• Babson is 26-19-4 all-time against Smith in a series that dates back to 1982.
• The Beavers have lost just once over their last 17 matches (14-1-2) versus the Pioneers going back to 2006.
• The Green and White have won nine in a row in Northampton since a 3-0 loss back in 2003.

LAST MEETING
• Junior Elisa Diletizia scored the only goal of the game in the 72nd minute as Babson posted its third straight victory with a 1-0 shutout of Smith on October 22, 2022 in Babson Park.
• Graduate student Morgan Krauss collected an assist on the winning goal. The Beavers had a 24-3 advantage in shots, including 10-0 in shots on goal.
• Graduate student Noemi Howland had a busy day in the Smith goal and kept the Pioneers in the game with eight saves.

SCOUTING THE BEAVERS
• Babson (6-5-2, 4-1-1 NEWMAC) is looking to get back on track after suffering its second straight loss on Wednesday with a 2-0 setback to Emerson at Hartwell-Rogers Field.
• First-year Callahan Cottone finished with four saves in the loss for the Beavers, who had a slim 13-11 edge in shots and a 7-3 advantage in corner kicks.
• Junior Jordyn Ferrantino (7-2-16) is tied for the NEWMAC lead in goals and ranks third in points and Krauss (4-4-12) is tied for third in assists and tied for fourth in points. The duo has combined for five of the team's eight goals in October.
• Cottone (1.54 GAA, .794 sv pct) has started all 13 games for the Beavers and is tied for third in the NEWMAC with four shutouts.

SCOUTING THE PIONEERS
• Smith (5-3-3, 3-1-2 NEWMAC) has posted shutouts in its last four outings with three wins and a draw, all in conference play, most recently a 1-0 victory at Wellesley on Wednesday.
• First-year Sofia Romero scored the game-winning goal in the win over the Blue and sophomore Skylar Smith made six saves for the clean sheet. Romero and junior Sara Buszkiewicz both tallied goals in last Saturday's 2-0 whitewash over Salve Regina and Smith stopped eight shots, her second highest in a game this season.
• The Pioneers have a balanced scoring with junior Kyla Warner (2-2-6), junior Karenna Kung (2-1-5), first-years Una Keller (2-1-5) and Romero (2-1-5) with two goals apiece. Nine different players have scored and Smith has outscored its opponents 13-8.
• Smith (4-2-2, 0.75 GAA, .880 sv pct) has four shutouts in her eight starts while grad student Noemi Howland (1-1-1, 0.67 GAA, .895 sv pct) has one clean sheet in three starts.

CONFERENCE RACE
• Saturday's contest matches teams that are tied for third (Babson) and in fifth place (Smith) in the NEWMAC standings, with six of the 11 conference games under their belts.
• The Beavers (4-1-1) have 13 points and share third place with Emerson while Smith (3-1-2) sits two back with 11 points.

NEWMAC NOTES
• Babson's setback to Emerson was just it's fourth loss in its last 26 games (16-4-6) against NEWMAC foes dating back to 2021, including the post-season.
• The Beavers are 52-4-4 when scoring at least two goals in NEWMAC games dating back to Sept. 18, 2012.

BEAVER BITES
• Ferrantino has scored seven goals this season after totaling six goals in her first two campaigns combined.
• Junior Emma Mumby scored on a penalty kick against Middlebury for her first goal in 33 career games.
• The goal by senior Natalie Knoff last Wednesday at WPI was her eighth career strike and snapped a streak of 15 scoreless games going back to last season.

NUMBERS TO KNOW
• Babson is 17-1-2 since the beginning of last season when conceding one goal or fewer.
• The Green and White are 30-3-1 when scoring at least two goals dating back to 2019.
• The Beavers are 55-1-5 since 2013 when leading at halftime.

UP NEXT
• Babson will return home to host No. 9 and league-leading MIT in a conference encounter Wednesday at 3 p.m. at Hartwell-Rogers Field.
