Box Score WALTHAM, Mass.—Senior Andrew Kirkpatrick (Winnetka, Ill.) led four players in double figures with 18 points and visiting Babson College shot a season-best 54.7 percent on the way to defeating Brandeis University, 88-76, in non-conference men's basketball action on Thursday night inside Red Auerbach Arena,
Babson, which has won three of its last four games, improves to 6-3 on the year, while Brandeis has dropped two of its last three contests to slip to 7-2 overall.
Kirkpatrick went 6-of-12 from the floor and added five assists and four rebounds, while sophomore Nate Amado (Hanson, Mass.) finished with 16 points, seven boards and five dimes to lead the Beavers. Senior Aaron Gao (Bridgewater, N.J.) scored a season-high 15 points on 6-of-11 shooting and led all players with three steals, and graduate student Ryan Cibull (Alameda, Calif.) chipped in with 10 points and five assists in the win.
Sophomore Toby Harris (Durham, N.C.) led all players with 23 points to go along with seven rebounds and three assists for the Judges. Senior Dylan Lien (Northboro, Mass.) had 20 points and first-year Ethan Edwards (Brooklyn, N.Y.) chipped in with 15 points in the loss.
Down 38-34 at halftime, first-year Timmy O'Toole (Milton, Mass.) and Gao canned three-pointers to key an 8-0 run that gave the Green and White a 42-38 advantage with 17:58 to play. Lien buried consecutive triples to put Brandeis back in front 44-42 but Gao followed with a jumper to spark a 19-5 spurt that helped the Beavers build a 12-point lead.
Amado had four points, junior John Gorgol (Scottsdale, Ariz.) knocked down a three-pointer and Cibull scored six consecutive points as Babson scored on eight straight possessions to go up 61-49 on a bucket by O'Toole with 11:24 remaining. The Judges pulled within six on back-to-back hoops by Edwards and Harris with 7:59 left but the Beavers answered with a 7-0 burst that included a three-pointer from sophomore David Cross (Cinnaminson, N.J.) and a layup by classmate Aidan Horan () to stretch the margin back to 72-59 at the 6:05 mark.
The Green and White went 6-of-7 at the free throw line over the final five-plus minutes and led by as many as 16 with less than 90 seconds to go.
Brandeis shot 58.3 percent from the floor and knocked down 8-of-11 three-pointers in the first half. Harris hit a trio of three-pointers during a 16-6 that gave the hosts their largest lead of the game at 24-14 midway through the stanza.
In addition to shooting their highest percentage of the season, the Beavers committed a season-low four turnovers, outscored the Judges 40-16 in the paint and finished with a 31-24 edge on the glass. Brandeis shot 50 percent for the game, 57.9 percent from beyond the arc (11-of-19) and outscored the Green and White 19-11 at the free throw line.
Babson returns to action on December 29 when it travels to Holland, Mich., to take on Hope at 7 p.m. Brandeis will host Westfield State on December 30 at 7 p.m.
GAME NOTES
• The Beavers are 22-24 all-time against Brandeis and Thursday's win snapped a two-game losing streak in the series.
• Babson's four turnovers are its fewest since committing just three in a 75-65 win over Bates on November 28, 2018.
• The Beavers finished with four players in double figures for the first time since last season's NCAA Tournament first round win over DeSales.
• Babson's 54 second-half points are its most in any half since putting up 56 in the opening stanza of a 104-65 win over Wheaton on January 15, 2022.
• The Beavers have now won 68 of their last 70 games going back to 2013 when shooting at least 50 percent from the floor.
