Box Score HOLLAND, Mich.—Senior Andrew Kirkpatrick (Winnetka, Ill.) tied for game-high honors with 14 points to lead five players in double figures as visiting Babson College defeated Hope College, 83-60, in non-conference men's basketball action on Thursday night inside DeVos Fieldhouse.
Babson, which has won five of its last six games, improves to 7-3 on the year, while Hope slips to 6-5 with its third consecutive loss.
Graduate student Ryan Cibull (Alameda, Calif.) scored a season-high 13 points on 5-of-6 shooting to go along with three assists, while sophomore Nate Amado (Hanson, Mass.) added 13 points on 5-of-6 shooting and pulled down four boards, all in the first half, for the Beavers. First-year Mark Woolhouse (Lebanon, N.J.) contributed career highs of 12 points and eight boards and classmate Timmy O'Toole (Milton, Mass.) chipped in with 11 points and five rebounds in the win.
First-year Marcus Wourman (Lansing, Mich.) scored 14 points on 6-of-10 shooting, while seniors Clayton Dykhouse (Zeeland, Mich.) and TJ McKenzie (Muskegon, Mich.) added 12 points apiece to pace the Flying Dutchmen.
Trailing 15-9 just over six minutes into the contest, the Green and White used a 20-4 run to build a double-digit advantage. Senior Aaron Gao (Bridgewater, N.J.) converted a layup, O'Toole canned a three-pointer from the top of the key and Cibull buried a turnaround jumper in the paint to put the Beavers in front 16-15. Amado scored four straight points and Woolhouse drilled another triple to make it 29-19 with 8:06 to go until halftime.
Hope went 9-of-13 at the free throw line but made just one field goal over the final eight minutes of the period and trailed 41-30 at the break. The Flying Dutchmen got as close as nine on a layup by sophomore Gabe Quillan (Ada, Mich.) 50 seconds into the second half but Cibull answered with back-to-back three-pointers and O'Toole scored four of the next six points to cap a 15-4 run that extended Babson's lead to 53-36 with 14:25 to go in the contest.
Woolhouse responded with a three-pointer and O'Toole drained a jumper after Hope twice pulled as close as 13, and the Green and White took its largest advantage of the night at 78-55 on a triple by Kirkpatrick with 4:06 remaining.
The Beavers shot 49.2 percent from the floor and 44 percent (11-of-25) from beyond the arc in addition o finishing with a 35-32 edge on the glass. They also turned 18 Hope turnovers into 20 points.
The Flying Dutchmen shot 44.7 percent on the night but went just 1-of-10 from deep and 17-of-30 (56.7 percent) at the free throw line.
Babson wraps up non-conference play at Chicago on Saturday at 2 p.m. EST, while Hope travels to Trine to begin league play next Wednesday.
