Diletizia's Brace Powers No. 25 Women's Soccer Past Clark, 2-0

Box Score

WORCESTER, Mass.—Sophomore Elisa Diletizia (Canton, Mass.) scored twice in less than seven minutes late in the first half to help No. 25 Babson College defeat Clark University, 2-0, in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) women's soccer action on Saturday at Granger Field.

Babson, which is second in the latest NCAA Region II rankings, improves to 13-3-1 overall and 7-2-1 in conference play with its fifth straight win and will be the second seed in next week's NEWMAC Tournament. Clark, which was unbeaten in 10 straight matches prior to Saturday's loss, drops to 10-5-2 overall and 6-2-2 in the league.

Senior Caitlin Trott (North Hampton, N.H.), classmate Morgan Fedosiewich (Ottawa, Ontario) and sophomore Laura Lukowicz (Coventry, R.I.) all recorded an assist for the Beavers. Fedosiewich was forced to make just one save to secure her ninth shutout of the year.

Sophomore goalkeeper Anabella White (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) stopped six shots for the Cougars.

The Green and White took the lead in the 35th minute as Trott flicked a long ball from Fedosiewich past the Clark back line towards Diletizia, who beat the charging White with a low shot from 15 yards. She then completed her brace in the 42nd minute in a similar fashion, running onto Lukowicz's chip over the defense drilling a shot past the diving White and inside the left post for her sixth goal of the season.

The Beavers' best chance to add to their lead after halftime came in the 49th minute when White sprawled out to push away a header by sophomore Jordyn Ferrantino (Millis, Mass.). Clark senior Siobhan Lounsbury (Southbury, Conn.), who saw her bid to tie the game from inside 10 yards sail well over the crossbar in the 38th minute, registered the only shot on frame for the hosts in the 55th minute.

Babson finished with a 13-8 edge in shots and attempted four of the five corner kicks in the game.

The Beavers will host seventh-seeded Coast Guard in a NEWMAC Tournament quarterfinal on Tuesday at 2 p.m., while Clark faces Springfield in the quarterfinals for the second year in a row.
