Box Score

Polar Bears Snap Beavers' 16-Game Unbeaten Streak

BABSON PARK, Mass.—Visiting Bowdoin College scored twice early in the second half and defeated No. 10 United Soccer Coaches/No. 11 D3soccer.com Babson College, 2-0, in non-conference women's soccer action on Saturday afternoon at Hartwell-Rogers Field.

Babson, which suffered its first loss of the year and had its 16-game unbeaten streak snapped, is now 8-1-0 overall, while Bowdoin improves to 7-2-0.

Senior goalkeeper Morgan Fedosiewich (Ottawa, Ontario) finished with a season-high 10 saves for the Beavers.

Senior Isa Quintana (Gainesville, Fla.) and first-year Rylie McLaren (Carlsbad, Calif.) both scored for the Polar Bears, who got assists from senior Rachael Peacock (Bronxville, N.Y.) and junior Samaya Bernardo (Kensington, Md.). Senior goalkeeper Alex Arndt (Rockport, Mass.) made two of her three saves in the first half to record her third clean sheet of the year.

Babson's best scoring chance of the match came in the 11th minute when Bowdoin first-year Kyra Hacker (Natick, Mass.) cleared junior Cassie Lawson's (Davie, Fla.) sliding shot off a cross from graduate student Izzy Lynch (Niskayuna, N.Y.) off the line to keep the game scoreless.

Bowdoin took the lead for good just 2:53 into the second half when they were awarded a penalty kick after a Babson defender was called for an intentional handball on the goal line and shown a red card. Fedosiewich made a tremendous diving save to deny Peacock's kick from the spot, but Quintana pounced on the rebound and drilled it into the upper left corner for her first goal of the year.

The Polar Bears doubled their advantage in the 64th minute when McLaren one-time Bernardo's cross from the right flank inside the right point from just outside the edge of the six-yard box. The visitors held the Green and White to just one shot on target in the second half and Arndt made a comfortable save on a shot from distance by Beavers' sophomore Elisa Diletizia (Canton, Mass.) in the 68th minute.

The Green and White was outshot 16-7 in the match and the teams combined for just three corner kicks.

Babson returns to action on Wednesday when it travels to nationally-ranked MIT at 4 p.m., while Bowdoin is at Trinity next Saturday at 2 p.m.

GAME NOTES
• The Beavers' 16-game unbeaten streak was tied for the second longest in program history with their 1993 squad, which coincidentally had their 16-game winning streak snapped by Bowdoin in the ECAC Tournament final that season.
• Prior to Saturday, Babson had outscored its first eight opponents 16-2 in the second half this season.
• Saturday's setback was just the second in the last 18 games at Hartwell-Rogers Field for the Beavers.
