Late Rally Pushes Harvard Past Men's Basketball in Exhibition, 74-64

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.—Visiting Babson College led by as many as nine early in the second half before suffering a 74-64 loss to Division I Harvard University in a non-conference exhibition game inside Lavietes Pavilion on Monday night.

Graduate student Spencer Cline (Mason, Ohio) led all scorers with 17 points, while first-year Nate Amado (Hanson, Mass.) recorded a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds. Senior Colin Bradanese (Billerica, Mass.) also scored 10 points, graduate student Mitchell Kirsch (Atkinson, N.H.) contributed nine points, 12 boards and five assists, and junior Andrew Kirkpatrick (Winnetka, Ill.) finished with nine points and five assists in the loss.

Junior Idan Tretout (Brooklyn, N.Y.) led four players in double figures with 16 points for the Crimson. Senior Noah Kirkwood (Ottawa, Ontario) registered a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds, while juniors Chris Ledlum (Brooklyn, N.H.) and Luka Sakota (Etobicoke, Ontario) added 13 points apiece.

Trailing 24-9 just over eight minutes into the contest, the Green and White outscored Harvard (6-4) 28-10 over the final 11:30 of the first half to take a 37-34 lead into the break. Cline canned a pair of three-pointers and had eight points during a 16-0 spurt that gave the Beavers a 32-27 advantage with 2:25 to go before halftime.

Cline scored 14 points in the opening stanza and Babson (6-4) held the Crimson scoreless for a stretch of 6:59 prior to Ledlum's put back with 1:43 to go in the period. The hosts made 10 of their first 16 shots but missed 13 straight during one stretch as the Beavers pushed their lead to as many as six late in the frame.

After trading hoops to begin the second half, Babson went on 10-4 run that included three-pointers by Amado and Cline to take its largest lead of the game at 49-40 with 15:15 to play in the game. Harvard responded with 14 of the next 16 points, a stretch that included five points from Tretout and four straight from Kirkwood to go back in front 54-51 at the 10:40 mark.

Amado tied the game with a three-pointer from the left wing on the ensuing possession, but the Green and White went more than six minutes without scoring before Bradanese's hoop to cut the deficit to 65-56 with 4:05 to play. Babson got as close as 69-61 on a Kirkpatrick triple with 1:58 to go but the hosts sealed the win by going 5-of-6 at the free throw line over the final 60 seconds.

Babson returns to action on December 31 when it travels to Amherst at 1 p.m., while Harvard hosts Holy Cross on December 19 at 2 p.m.

• The Beavers are now 1-6 all-time against Harvard with the lone win coming back in 1991.
• Monday's matchup was the first between Babson and the Crimson since December 1996.
