Men's Hoops Runs Past Suffolk, 91-66

Box Score

BABSON PARK, Mass.—Senior Colin Bradanese (Billerica, Mass.) scored a career-high 25 points to lead three players in double figures as Babson College defeated visiting Suffolk University, 91-66, at the 35th Babson Invitational Tournament on Sunday afternoon.

With the win, Babson improves to 2-0 on the young season, while Suffolk drops to 1-1.

Senior James Welch (Needham, Mass.) finished with 15 points and first-year Nate Amado (Whitman, Mass.) recorded his first career double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds for the Beavers. Graduate student Mitchell Kirsch (Atkinson, N.H.) chipped in with seven points and two assists as seven different players finished with at least six points in the win.

Junior Aidan Sullivan (Scituate, Mass.) scored 14 points on 4-of-6 shooting, while classmate John Gates (Hingham, Mass.) and first-year Cole LeVangie (Whitman, Mass.) each finished with 11 points to pace the Rams, who shot just 35.6 percent in the loss.

The Green and White trailed by as many as eight early in the first half before seizing command with a 16-0 run that included four points apiece from Bradanese and Dorney and three-pointers by Welch and Amado for a 25-17 lead. Suffolk got back within five on a triple by LeVangie, but Bradanese scored six straight points as part of a 10-2 spurt to stretch Babson's advantage of 37-24 less than three minutes before the half.

Leading 45-31 at the break, the Beavers outscored the Rams 17-7 over the first 4:13 of the second half. First-year Rob Crouch (Jacksonville, Fla.) scored in transition to make it 54-34, Bradanese drained a three-pointer after an Amado tip-in, and Amado converted a three-point play pushing the margin to 62-38 with 15:47 to play.

Suffolk responded with eight straight points to close the gap to 16, but Welch scored seven consecutive points, sophomore John Gorgol (Scottsdale, Ariz.) buried a three-pointer from the top and Bradanese added four straight points to cap a 14-2 burst that made it 76-48 with 8:02 to go.

The Beavers shot 45.2 percent from the floor and finished with a 48-39 edge on the glass. They also scored 16 second-chance points and outscored the Rams 19-6 off of turnovers.

Babson returns to action on Wednesday when it hosts Lasell at 7 p.m., while Suffolk faces Tufts on November 18 at 7 p.m.

• The Beavers committed just six turnovers in Sunday's win and a combined 14 in victories over UMass Boston and Suffolk to begin the season.
