Men's Hoops Stifles Bowdoin, 78-54

BABSON PARK, Mass.—Babson College opened the game with a 22-2 run and cruised to 78-54 win over visiting Bowdoin College in non-conference men's basketball action on Sunday afternoon inside Staake Gymnasium.

With the win, Babson improves to 5-3 on the year while Bowdoin drops to 4-2 overall.

Senior Colin Bradanese (Billerica, Mass.) scored a season-high 26 points on 12-of-15 shooting and sophomore Kieran Dorney (Garden City, N.Y.) contributed a season-best 18 points to go along with two steals to lead the Beavers. First-year Rob Crouch (Jacksonville, Fla.) added 12 points and five rebounds and classmate Parker Mason (Portsmouth, R.I.) chipped in with nine points and five boards in his collegiate debut.

Sophomore Michael Simonds (Falmouth, Maine) finished with a team-high 13 points to lead the Polar Bears. Junior Xander Werkman (Spokane, Wash.) contributed 11 points and a game-high nine rebounds, while first-year James McGowan (Westwood, Mass.) added 11 points, five boards, two assists and two steals in the loss.

The Green and White held Bowdoin to 1-of-11 shooting while forcing seven turnovers on the way to opening a 20-point lead just over nine minutes into the contest. Bradanese scored seven consecutive points to make it 11-0 at the 15:39 mark and Dorney and Mason knocked down back-to-back three-pointers extending the margin to 17-0 just over a minute later.

Dorney's three-pointer with 10:59 to go in the opening half made it 22-2 and he banged his third triple of the period just before the horn to push the Babson lead back to 38-18 going to the locker room.

The Polar Bears got as close as 16 on a three-pointer by Simonds just over five minutes into the second half before the Beavers pulled away for good with a 12-0 spurt. Mason canned back-to-back three-pointers, Crouch followed with four straight points and Bradanese knocked down a jumper to make it 59-31 with 9:13 remaining. Dorney gave the Green and White its biggest lead of the game (72-42) with his fourth triple of the afternoon with under six minutes to go.

The Beavers shot a season-high 48.3 percent from the floor and turned 17 Bowdoin turnovers into 21 points. The Polar Bears shot just 35.6 percent and finished 7-of-32 (21.9 percent) from beyond the arc.

Babson returns to action on Friday when it travels to Brandeis at 7:30 p.m., while Bowdoin visits Maine Maritime on Wednesday at 7 p.m.

• The Beavers have won three straight games in the series and are now 20-21 all-time against Bowdoin.
• The home team has won 10 of the last 12 games between Babson and Bowdoin.
