No. 19 Men's Hoops Cruises Past Wheaton, 82-57

BABSON PARK, Mass.—Junior Andrew Jaworski (Tolland, Conn.) finished with 22 points, eight rebounds and five assists to help 19th-ranked Babson College defeat visiting Wheaton College, 82-57, in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) men's basketball action on Saturday afternoon inside Staake Gymnasium.

Babson, which has won seven of its last eight games, improves to 19-4 overall and 9-3 in league play, while Wheaton drops to 6-16 overall and 1-11 in the NEWMAC with its 11th loss in the last 12 outings.

Senior Jack Coolahan (Newtown, Mass.) contributed 14 points, six rebounds and five steals, while junior Matt Pattyson (Doylestown, Pa.) and sophomore Colin Bradanese (Billerica, Mass.) chipped in with 10 points apiece for the Beavers. First-year Aaron Gao (Bridgewater, N.J.) also scored eight points to go along with five assists and four steals in the victory.

Senior Alex DuBrow (Foxboro, Mass.) scored 14 points and dished out a game-high seven assists, while first-year Alex Carlisle (St. Johnsbury, Vt.) added 14 points and five rebounds to pace the Lyons. Senior Robby Lowey (Foxboro, Mass.) chipped in with nine points and game-high 10 boards in the loss.

The Green and White started 5-of-7 from three-point range to build a 21-12 advantage on Pattyson's triple at the 12:38 mark of the opening stanza. Down by as many as 13, Wheaton pulled back within nine at 37-28 on a layup by first-year Aaron Williams (Springfield, Mass.) with 2:32 to go in the half before the Beavers pulled away with a 15-0 run.

Bradanese scored on back-to-back trips to give Babson a 43-28 lead at the break, Coolahan scored the first five points of the second half, and Jaworski added four straight free throws to make it 52-28 with 16:43 to play. Wheaton got as close as 57-39 on a three-point play by Carlisle with 13:02 remaining, but Jaworski and Gao combined for 12 points as part of a 16-6 spurt that saw the Beavers' lead balloon to as many as 28 with less than seven minutes to go.

The Green and White shot 47 percent from the floor and scored 22 points off of 22 Wheaton turnovers. The Beavers also outrebounded the Lyons 39-34.

Both teams return to action on Wednesday at 7 p.m. as Babson travels to Emerson, while Wheaton visits Coast Guard.

GAME NOTES
• The Beavers are 38-14 all-time against Wheaton and have won 20 of the last 22 games in the series.
• Saturday's contest marked the final regular season home game for Coolahan and fellow seniors Frank Oftring (North Attleboro, Mass.) and Shyheim Ulrickson (Topsham, Maine). The trio are the last remaining members of the Babson's 2017 national championship squad.
• Three of the Beavers' four losses have been followed by a 25-point victory, two of which have come against Wheaton.
• Jaworski surpassed the 20-point mark for the seventh time in 12 conference games in Saturday's win.
