Coolahan, No. 22 Men's Basketball Down MIT, 72-52

BABSON PARK, Mass.—Senior Jack Coolahan (Newtown, Pa.) scored 24 points on 10-of-15 shooting to help 22nd-ranked Babson College defeat visiting MIT, 72-52, in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) men's basketball action on Saturday afternoon inside Staake Gymnasium.

With its second consecutive victory, Babson improves to 14-3 overall and 4-2 in league play. MIT, which has dropped two straight games, slips to 9-8 overall and 2-4 in the NEWMAC.

Sophomore Colin Bradanese (Billerica, Mass.) scored 14 points on 7-of-8 shooting and junior Crew Ainge (Wellesley, Mass.) chipped in with eight points, a game-high five assists and four rebounds for the Beavers. Sophomore James Welch (Needham, Mass.) and first-year Matt Corey (Londonderry, N.H.) both scored seven points apiece and fellow rookie Aaron Gao (Bridgewater, N.J.) pulled down six boards.

Kael Kordonowy (Wichita, Kan.) scored 15 points on 6-of-9 shooting to lead the Engineers, who were limited to just 37.5 percent shooting in the loss.

The Green and White never trailed in the game and used a 15-6 run over the final 5:39 of the first half to build a 14-point lead at the break. Ainge scored a pair of hoops in the paint, Coolahan hit a deep three-pointer and Bradanese scored the Beavers' final four points, including a tip-in to beat to beat the buzzer that put the hosts up 39-25.

Bradanese and Coolahan combined for 10 points over the first five minutes of the second half to help Babson extended its advantage to 54-31 on a bucket by Corey with 14:40 remaining. MIT got back-to-back hoops from first-year Matas Masys (Oakbrook Terrace, Ill.) to cut its deficit to 21, but Bradanese and Welch scored on consecutive trips to stretch the Beavers' margin to 60-35 at the 10:01 mark.

A layup by Coolahan gave the Beavers their biggest lead of the game at 67-41 with 5:05 to play in the contest.

The Green and White shot 53.3 percent for the game (32-of-60) and finished with a 38-19 edge on the glass. The Beavers also held the Engineers to just 1-of-15 shooting (6.7 percent) from beyond the arc.

Both teams return to action on Wednesday at 7 p.m. as Babson hosts Emerson, while MIT takes on Clark in Cambridge.

GAME NOTES
• The Beavers are now 56-25 all-time against MIT and picked up their first win in the series since 2018.
• With Saturday's win, Babson improved to 10-0 on the year when outrebounding its opponents.
• Coolahan now scored at least 20 points in three consecutive games and is averaging 22.5 points through his first six NEWMAC outings.
• The Beavers finished with season lows in both made free throws (2) and free throw attempts (3) in Saturday's victory.
