LAKE PLACID, N.Y.—The Babson College men's alpine ski team finished 10th in the giant slalom at the United States Collegiate Ski & Snowboard Association (USCSA) National Championships on Wednesday at Whiteface Mountain.
The GS was dominated by western powers Rocky Mountain College and Sierra Nevada College, which were separated by less than a second at the top of the standings. The College of Idaho was a distant third, while Clarkson University and St. Olaf College rounded out the top five.
Senior Sam Barber (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) was nearly four seconds faster on his second run and turned in the Beavers' top performance of the day by finishing 28th overall. Sophomore John Boland (Waitsfield, Vt.) came in 34th and edged out senior Graham Quisenberry (Farmington, Conn.), who finished 35th, by 0.39 seconds.
Senior Carter Dowd (Salt Lake City, Utah) and T.J. Pope (Bountiful, Utah) were both unable to complete their first run for the Green and White.
Babson, which is making its ninth consecutive national championships appearance, returns to the slopes on Thursday for the slalom starting at 9:30 a.m.
