WILMINGTON, N.Y.—First-years
Niko Leunig (Evergreen, Colo.) and
Asher Baron (South Londonderry, Vt.) claimed the top two spots on the podium as the Babson College men's alpine ski team stayed perfect on the season with a first-place finish in the slalom at Whiteface Mountain on Saturday.
The Beavers' top three competitors finished more than 10 seconds ahead of second-place Clarkson, while Castleton and UConn placed third and fourth, respectively. The victory was the 25th in a row in MacConnell Division competition for Babson.
Leunig recorded the fastest first run of any league competitor and posted a two-run time of 1:26.04 to finish just 0.49 seconds ahead of Baron. Sophomore
James Rosenbloom (Stowe, Vt.) recorded the second fastest second run and came in fifth with a time of 1:26.85, while classmate
Connor Roy (Wellesley, Mass.) placed sixth in a time of 1:27.13.
First-year
Ben Hostetter (Osterville, Mass.) placed ninth in a time of 1:29.09, which was 0.78 seconds ahead of senior
Elliot Perretta (Annecy, France), who came in 11th overall. First-year
Nick Heinrich (East Burke, Vt.) finished 18th with a time of 1:33.33, senior
Sebastian Sheppard (Park City, Utah) was three spots behind him in 21st with a time of 1:33.84 and classmate
Finn Horsley (Salt Lake City, Utah) placed 29th in a time of 1:36.39.
The Beavers return to Whiteface on Sunday for the giant slalom beginning at 10 a.m.
