CARRABASSETT VALLEY, Maine—The Babson College men's alpine ski team captured its third consecutive USCSA Eastern Regional Championships title thanks to a third-place finish in the slalom on Saturday afternoon at Sugarloaf Mountain.
The Beavers, who won Saturday's giant slalom, edged out UConn and Clarkson to punch its 19th straight ticket to the USCSA National Championships. Maine-Farmington, which came in fourth and fifth-place UMass clinched the final two spots at nationals, which will take place at Whiteface Mountain in Wilmington, N.Y., beginning on March 10.
Babson had its run of 11 straight victories snapped by coming in third in the slalom, 1.36 seconds behind first-place Castleton and just 0.06 seconds behind second-place UConn. Senior
Elliot Perretta (Annecy, France) was the team's top finisher coming in third with a two-run time of 1:25.01.
Sophomore
James Rosenbloom (Stowe, Vt.) placed 11th with a time of 1:26.95, first-year
Ben Hostetter (Osterville, Mass.) finished 15th in 1:27.85 and classmate
Asher Baron (South Londonderry, Vt.) was 14th after his first run but came in 52nd overall in a time of 1:52.91.
Perretta also finished third in the overall combined standings, one spot ahead of Rosenbloom, while Hostetter came in eighth. Baron placed 34th overall in the combined standings.
Babson returns to action next Saturday when it travels to the Middlebury Snow Bowl in Hancock, Vt., for the EISA Championships.
