Leunig Claims Skier and Rookie of the Year Awards as Seven from Men's Alpine Skiing Earn All-MacConnell Division Recognition

BABSON PARK, Mass.—First-year Niko Leunig (Evergreen, Colo.) became the first athlete in program history to earn both MacConnell Division Skier and Rookie of the Year honors as a record seven members of the Babson College men's alpine ski garnered all-league recognition on Wednesday. 

Senior Elliot Perretta (Annecy, France) and sophomores James Rosenbloom (Stowe, Vt.) and Connor Roy (Wellesley, Mass.) all received All-MacConnell Division laurels for the second year ina row, while Leunig and fellow first-years Asher Baron (South Londonderry, Vt.), Ben Hostetter (Osterville, Mass.) and Nick Heinrich (East Burke, Vt.) were each named to the all-league team for the first time in their respective careers. The all-league team honors skiers that place among the top-15 at the end of the regular season. 

Leunig put together one of the most dominant seasons in MacConnell Division history winning his final seven races and landing atop the podium eight times in 10 starts. He came in first in all five giant slalom races and won three times to go along with a third-place showing in the slalom to claim the Beavers' first skier of the year award since 2019 and the program's first rookie of the year honor. 

Perretta earned a spot on the podium eight times in 10 races while recording one victory, four runner-up finishes and three third-place results to come in second behind Leunig. He finished outside the top five just one time on the year came in either second or third in the final five races of the regular season. 

Rosenbloom put together another terrific season with a pair of podium finishes and seven top-five results to come in fourth in the MacConnell Division standings. He came in third once in both the slalom and GS and placed among the top five in each of the final four races of the regular season. 

Baron finished sixth in the league standings after recording a pair of runner-up showings and seven top-10 results. Roy, who came in ninth overall, also posted seven top-10s and had one runner-up finish, while Hostetter placed worse than ninth just once in eight completed races to finish 10th on the year. 

Heinrich earned the final spot on the All-MacConnell Division team thanks to a 13th-place showing in the giant slalom on the final day of the regular season at Waterville Valley. He finished among the top 15 five times in six completed races. 

After capturing its third straight regional title at Sugarloaf last month, Babson begins competition at the USCSA National Championships at Whiteface Mountain on March 11.
