Alpine Ski Teams Head to Whiteface for USCSA National Championships Beginning Tuesday

WHAT TO KNOW

•    The Babson men's and women's alpine ski teams and the top programs from around the country are set to compete in the USCSA National Championships from March 10-13 at Whiteface Mountain just north of Lake Placid, N.Y.
•    The USCSA National Championships return to Whiteface for the second time in the last three seasons and the seventh time since 2014. 
•    The Babson men are making their 18th consecutive appearance at nationals, while the women's squad qualified for the championships for the 10th straight time.

2025 USCSA NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP HIGHLIGHTS
•    Junior Mads Fondevik Syversen captured the program's first national title in the slalom to help the Babson men finish a program-best second, while the women's squad matched their highest finish by coming in third at Mount Bachelor in Bend, Ore., last March. 
•    Syversen, who also took second in the giant slalom and placed first in the men's combined standings, senior Elliot Perretta (4th GS, 7th SL, 6th combined) and sophomore James Rosenbloom (13th GS, 14th SL, 13th combined) all collected three All-America awards to lead the Babson men, who posted their second top-three finish since 2022.
•    Amelie Alkier '25 and junior Julia Wiacek both finished among the top 10 in the slalom and combined standings to secure a pair of All-America honors apiece for the Babson women, who recorded their third straight third-place finish at nationals. 

ABOUT THE BABSON WOMEN
•    The Beavers finished as the runner-up in the slalom and third in the slalom the way to recording a second-place result in the combined standings at the USCSA Eastern Regional Championships at Sugarloaf Mountain back on February 14-15. 
•    First-year Quinn Dennehy finished third overall after coming in eighth in the giant slalom and second in the slalom, junior Sonnie Travis placed fourth in the GS, eighth in the slalom and fifth in the combined standings, and sophomore Camryn Knowlton and junior Ava Butler came in eighth and 10th, respectively, in the combined standings after posting top-15 showings in both the GS and slalom. 
•    Dennehy came in third in the MacConnell Division standings thanks to three runner-up finishes and has landed on the podium six times in 12 races this winter, while Wiacek recorded one victory and one second-place showing on the way to finishing sixth in the league standings. 
•    Travis posted her top showing of the season by coming in fourth in the GS at regionals and has nine top-10 results in 12 races on the year, Knowlton owns 10 top-15 finishes and Butler has completed two runs in all 12 starts, placing among the top 15 six times. 

ABOUT THE BABSON MEN
•    The Beavers finished first in the giant slalom and took third in the slalom en route to capturing their third consecutive title at the USCSA Eastern Regional Championships last month at Sugarloaf. 
•    Perretta came in third in the GS, slalom and combined standings, Rosenbloom took fourth in the giant slalom and combined and 11th in the slalom, and first-year Ben Hostetter placed fifth in the giant slalom, 15th in the slalom and eighth in the combined standings. 
•    First-year Nico Leunig won his final seven races and finished first eight times in 10 starts on the way to earning MacConnell Division Skier and Rookie of the Year honors, while Perretta recorded eight podium finishes, including one victory and four second-place results, to come in second in the league standings. 
•    Rosenbloom was fourth in the MacConnell Division standings and owns eight top-five results in 12 races this winter, first-year Asher Baron came in sixth after two runner-up and six top-10 finishes, and sophomore Connor Roy (9th) and Hostetter (10th) joined them in the top 10 after combining for 14 top-10 results during the regular season. 

HISTORY LESSON
•     The Babson women have recorded eight consecutive top-five finishes at nationals, which includes placing third in 2022, 2024 and 2025, finishing fourth three times (2016, 2018, 2020) and tying for fourth place in 2019.
•    The Babson men recorded 10 consecutive top-10 finishes at nationals from 2012-22, which includes coming in third in both 2013 and 2022, and winning the slalom to earn a four-way tie for first before ultimately finishing fourth at Whiteface in 2018. 

SUCCESS AT WHITEFACE
•    The Babson women have finished no worse than fourth in five national championships hosted at Whiteface since 2016. 
•    The Babson men own five top-10 finishes in six USCSA National Championship appearances at Whiteface since 2014, which includes coming in third in 2022 and winning the slalom and placing fourth in 2018. 
•    Butler boasts four top-10 finishes in her career in the giant slalom, and both Wiacek and Butler have placed among the top 10 three times in the GS at Whiteface. All three skiers – Wiacek (7th), Travis (13th) and Butler (21st) – also recorded top-25 finishes in the slalom at the 2024 USCSA National Championships. 
•    Leunig came in first in both the men's GS and slalom, Baran placed second in the slalom and Perretta came in third in the giant slalom at Whiteface back on January 24-25 of this season. 

TEAMS TO WATCH
•    The Rocky Mountain men captured their sixth national championship since 2011 last winter and also own eight runner-up finishes in 14 championship appearances during this stretch.
•    Both Clarkson and Northern Michigan have placed among the top six at three straight national championships (excluding the abbreviated 2023 event). 
•    On the women's side, Rocky Mountain has claimed back-to-back national titles and has finished atop the podium five times since 2014. 
•    Castleton came in second last winter and fourth in 2022, while UConn posted top-five finishes in both 2022 and 2024.
