LAKE PLACID, N.Y.—Senior Carter Dowd (Salt Lake City, Utah) became the only six-time All-American in program history with his 15th-place finish as the Babson College men's alpine ski team came in eighth in the slalom and tied for ninth overall at the United States Collegiate Ski & Snowboard Association (USCSA) National Championships on Friday at Whiteface Mountain.
Dowd garnered All-America honors for the fourth year in a row and the second time in the slalom with a pair of solid runs on Friday. By virtue of his result, he passed Carson Thurber '06, who won five All-America awards over his final three seasons.
Fellow senior Sam Barber (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) came in 36th in the slalom and finished 21st in the combined standings, while sophomore John Boland (Waitsfield, Vt.) recorded a 39th-place result in the slalom and finished 24th overall. Classmates Jackson Vanzon-Borwick (South Egremont, Mass.) and T.J. Pope (Bountiful, Utah) came in 40th and 42nd, respectively, for the Beavers in the slalom on Friday.
Babson, which was making its ninth straight appearance at the USCSA National Championships, has now posted five consecutive top-10 finishes going back to 2012.
