GREENWOOD, Maine—Led by a victory in the slalom and a second-place finish in the giant slalom from senior Carter Dowd (Salt Lake City, Utah), the Babson College men's alpine ski team finished fourth in the combined standings at the United States Collegiate Ski & Snowboard Association (USCSA) Eastern Regional Championships on Saturday and Sunday at Mount Abram. By virture of their fourth-place result, the Beavers earned a spot at nationals for the ninth consecutive winter and the 14th time in the last 15 years.
The Green and White came in fourth in Saturday's GS and third in Sunday's slalom, where Dowd posted the third regional-victory of his career. He also came in first in the combined standings for the second time in four years for Babson.
Sophomore T.J. Pope (Bountiful, Utah) came in 12th in the GS, while classmate John Boland (Waitsfield, Vt.) and senior Graham Quisenberry (Farmington, Conn.) finished 21st and 24th, respectively.
Sophomore Jackson Vanzon-Borwick (South Egremont, Mass.) recorded a seventh-place showing in the slalom, while senior Sam Barber (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) finished 18th overall, one spot ahead of Boland.
"We had a great weekend at regionals led by an all-time performance from Carter," said first-year head coach Chris Jacobs. "He is peaking at the right time and had four stellar runs to lead our team back to nationals."
The Beavers will travel to Whiteface Mountain in Lake Placid, N.Y., for the USCSA National Championships starting on Wednesday, March 9.
