Men Earn Ninth Straight USCSA Regional Championships Berth, While Women Record Best League Finish Since 1997 And Will Make Second Consecutive Regionals Appearance
NEWBURY, N.H.—Senior Carter Dowd (Salt Lake City, Utah) came in third in the men's race and first-year Teagan Mosenthal (Campton, N.H.) was sixth in the women's race as both Babson College alpine ski teams finished fourth in the giant slalom to conclude the regular season on Sunday at Mount Sunapee.
Clarkson, which captured its fifth consecutive MacConnell Division title, won for the sixth time in the last seven races on the men's side. Castleton came in second and was followed by Connecticut and the Beavers, who finished second overall in the league standings and qualified for next weekend's USCSA Eastern Regional Championships for the ninth consecutive winter.
Sophomore T.J. Pope (Bountiful, Utah) came in 17th, senior Sam Barber (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) was 18th and Graham Quisenberry (Farmington, Conn.) finished 20th for the Green and White. Sophomore John Boland (Waitsfield, Vt.) posted a 21st-place showing, while classmate Jackson Vanzon-Borwick (South Egremont, Mass.) came in 27th.
The Babson women finished behind five-time defending champion Brown, Castleton and Clarkson on Sunday, but more importantly came in third in the MacConnell Division regular-season standings to book their second consecutive berth at next weekend's regional championships. The third-place finish is the Beavers' best since 1997, which was also the last time the program made back-to-back regional appearances.
Junior Kristen Sweeney (Westport, Conn.) came in 13th, sophomore Michelle Martin (Belmont, Mass.) was 19th and classmate Tatum Alkier (Collingwood, Ontario) finished 23rd overall. Junior Megan Jones (Essex, Mass.) posted her top result of the season with a 27th-place showing, while sophomore Alexis Kane (North Syracuse, N.Y.) finished 39th marking her best result of the winter.
The two-day USCSA Eastern Regional Championships being with the slalom on Saturday and close with the giant slalom on Sunday at Mount Abram in Greenwood, Maine.
