Capalbo Earns Repeat Bid To NCAA Division III Track & Field Championships
BABSON PARK, Mass.—After becoming just the third female in program history to earn All-New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) and All-New England track & field honors in the same year, junior Marina Capalbo (Gainesville, Va.) picked up her second consecutive bid to the NCAA Division III Track & Field Championship when the field for the 1500-meter run was announced on May 18.
Capalbo, who finished 17th at the 2013 NCAA Championship, cemented her spot in this year's field by setting a new school record with a time of 4:34.48 at the New Balance Boston Twilight Meet at Bentley University on May 10. By trimming over a second off her previous school record, she posted the nation's 25th-fastest time of the spring and entered the national championship meet with the 15th-best time among the 22 runners competing in the 1500 meters.
One of just two competitors from New England, Capalbo came in 19th overall with a time of 4:43.91 at the NCAA Championship. Entering her senior year, she holds the top-10 times in both the 800- and 1500-meter events, and is also the school record holder in the 5000 meters.
