DELAWARE, Ohio—Babson College's Marina Capalbo (Gainesville, Va.) wrapped up her season at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championship for the second consecutive season on Thursday evening. The standout junior, one of just 22 runners to earn a bid in the 1500 meters, posted a time of 4:43.91 to come in 19th in the preliminaries at Selby Stadium on the campus of Ohio Wesleyan University.
Senior Christy Cazzola (Kaukauna, Wis.) of the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh came in first with a time of 4:33.97, leading the top 12 finishers into the finals on Saturday afternoon. The region's only other competitor, senior Amelia Lundvist (South Portland, Maine) of Brandeis University, posted a 14th-place result.
Capalbo's second consecutive NCAA National Championship bid put the finishing touches on a tremendous 2013-14 campaign. She set new program records in the 800, 1500, and 5000 meters while becoming just the fourth female in school history to earn All-New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) honors when she finished second in the 1500-meter run back on April 26. Capalbo, who holds the top 10 times in both the 800 and 1500 meters, also garnered All-New England accolades in both events at Springfield College on May 3.
In addition to her fantastic spring season, Capalbo also qualified for the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championship in November, becoming the only runner in Babson history to reach the national meet.
