TROY, N.Y.—Six members of the Babson College men's and women's track & field team battled steady rain and windy conditions at the final day of the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championships on Friday afternoon at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute's Harkness Field & Track.
Sophomore Dominic Esposito (Massapequa, N.Y.) registered the Beavers' top performance of the weekend, posting an 11th-place finish in the decathlon with 5,634 points. He set a new school record and came in ninth by clearing 3.44 meters in the pole vault while posting a time of 17.09 in the 110-meter hurdles and recording a throw of 29.85 meters in the discus. Esposito closed the competition with a pair of third-place showings, throwing the javelin 45.01 meters and then posting a time of 4:41.20 in the 1500-meter run. The program record holder in the decathlon, Esposito finished just nine point short of his mark set two weeks ago at the NCAA New England Championship.
Senior Imani Smith (Fort Mill, S.C.) had a strong performance in what was likely her final race for the Green and White, coming in 13th in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:07.89. Junior Mark Gulesian (Miami, Fla.) came in 22nd in the men's 1500-meter run with a time of 4:14.66 and also took part in the 4x800 relay with seniors Brian deLeon (Princeton, N.J.) and Nate Kolman (Long Grove, Ill.) and first-year Will Nemeth (Coplay, Pa.), where Babson finished 14th with a time of 8:15.39.
Junior Marina Capalbo (Gainesville, Va.), who was set to compete in both the 800 and 1500 meters, was a late scratch in both events. She currently holds the nation's 24th-best time in the 1500-meter run (4:34.48) and will wait to find out if she is selected to the NCAA Division III National Championship meet for the second year in a row on Sunday.
