Box Score BOSTON—Senior Jessica DiPhilippo (Falmouth, Maine) had a goal and an assist, and visiting Babson College scored twice in the opening 10 minutes of the match on its way to defeating Emerson College, 3-1, in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) women's soccer action on Tuesday night at Rotch Field.
With the victory, Babson is now 11-2-2 overall and 6-1-1 in conference play, while Emerson, which is winless in its last six matches, drops to 4-10-1 overall and 1-6-0 in the NEWMAC.
Junior Kristina Simonson (Easton, Mass.) and first-year Kelsey Ford (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) also scored for the Beavers. Fellow first-year Victoria Penta (Belmont, Mass.) chipped in with an assist in the win.
DiPhilippo opened the scoring 5:48 into the game, taking a feed from Penta and burying a shot past Lions' senior goalkeeper Allie Altman (Thousand Oaks, Calif.) and into the lower left corner for a 1-0 lead. Ford gave the Green and White a 2-0 lead just 4:06 later when she took a pass from DiPhilippo and got behind the Emerson back line before hitting a shot inside the right post for her fourth marker of the year.
Babson sophomore Jennifer Narlee (Medfield, Mass.) saw her header go off the post in the 26th minute, and the Lions took advantage by cutting the deficit in half late in the stanza. After a foul on the Beavers just inside of midfield, junior Haley Moser (Southbury, Conn.) struck for her first career goal, drilling a free kick into the upper left corner to make it 2-1 at the 37:33 mark.
The Green and White regained its two-goal edge in the 66th minute when Simonson notched her second goal of the season, and Babson nearly added to its lead in the closing minutes but junior Meghan Tyson (Scarborough, Maine) and DiPhilippo both had late chances denied by the post.
Senior goalkeeper Melina Kapotsis (Watertown, Mass.) stopped four shots to earn the win for the Beavers, while Altman made five saves for Emerson.
The Green and White held a 17-6 edge in shots and a 3-2 advantage in corner kicks on the night.
