BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – First-year Meghan Andrew
(Easton, Mass.) headed in the game-winning goal with just
ten seconds remaining in regulation to lift the Babson College
women's soccer team to a dramatic 1-0 victory over host
Bridgewater State University on Saturday afternoon in
Bridgewater.
With the win, the Beavers improve to 4-1 on the season as all
four of their victories have been 1-0 shutouts. The Bears
even their 2010 record at 1-1 with the loss.
With time winding down in the final minute of play, Babson took
advantage of a BSU foul. Off a restart, sophomore defender
Nichole Vargas (Warren, R.I.) lobbed a cross over
the Bridgewater defense and Andrew was able to head the ball into
the back of the net just past the outstretched hand of Bears'
goaltender Kayla Grover (Haverhill, Mass.). It was the rookie
midfielder's second goal of the season - both of which were
game-winners.
Junior goaltender Lisa Wojnar (Bellaire, Texas)
turned aside three shots to record her third shutout of the season
for the Beavers who held a 15-11 shot advantage for the game.
Grover registered eight saves between the pipes for the Bears.
Bridgewater State will host Brandeis University on Tuesday
afternoon at 4:00 PM, while Babson entertains Framingham State also
on Tuesday at four.
